i'm really interested in this body style and know that the 2007 m3 will have a facelift and new heart (400 hp). i'd like to save some money by waiting a little bit longer to place my order for the e46 m3, but don't want to wait too long and be told 'sorry, no more orders.'

that being said, when is the best time to place my order? i don't have the money to buy the car cash, but would like to put $30k down.

You don't need to order an M3 anymore. They're not as hot as they used to be two to three years back. People are getting about $3000 off MSRP which means that supply has met demand. Nowadays, there are far too many competitors such as the Audi S4 and MB C55AMG to justify a premium on an M3. A premium would probably mean you would have to order it.

I ordered mine in order to get all the options I wanted. The dealership often does not carry the exact specifications people want.

Well I ordered mine and the total final time it took was only 3 and a half weeks. A friend of mine ordered a MINI COOPER S and it took him 3 months. Also, I believe their is only one mini cooper plant and he had very specific items he wanted. Isn' their only one Motorsport plant (in Munich) aswell? Mine came awfully quick compared to his. Many of my friends who have ordered cars all got their in 3-4 weeks. Hope this helps.
