Wondering where to get an updated NAV CD for my 2001 M5? I live in Arizona and want to see the surface streets and not just the major highways?

It seems that many of the aftermarket Nav systems do a lot more than the BMW option that is in the car. Any suggestions as to how to maximize the BMW Nav system? Can it be configured to play DVDs on the screen? Detect businesses as you drive near them, etc....

Thanks,
abooyeung

Your dealership can get you the update discs...you can not modify the Nav to play DVD's however since the software is totally incapable of that sort of thing...depending on where you are I always delt with BMW of North Scottsdale, they always treated me real fair and were always friendly.

You would need to go to any BMW dealership to buy the new discs for your M5. I think it is great to use stock Nav in any car, but you are definitly right with the idea that the new aftermarket lcd screens with nav is getting better.

Talking about the Navigation system I have just purchased a 2001 M5 and when I start the car up and after I accept the disclaimer it goes to the Navigation field. My question is can you program it for it to go directly to map on start up.

thank
Anthony

Yes. Get the updated firmware ISO from http://www.bimmernav.com/index.html

It's the same ISO for both the CDNav and DVDNav. The instructions on how to update it are pretty straight forward.

I found an updated Nav CD on eBay for about 40% cheaper than the dealership or Navteq
