i'm new here, and just had a few quick questions... is there any difference/changes made to the m5 between 2001 and up? from the pics i've seen, they look the same (i think)...
also, i heard dinan can now supercharge m5's to get 621 ponies! does anyone know if that's on the 2001-ish generation of m5's or maybe just the new ones (2005 e60)? hopefully not the new ones, can't afford it, and personally don't like the design.
lastly, why can't i find these rims anywhere (attached)? i like them!
The last body style was made from 2000 - 2003(no M5 in 2004).
It is my understanding that there where several changes between the 2000 and the 2001 model. After that, they where the same.
"Angel eye" headlights started on the '01' model.
Steering wheel is a little different/nicer starting in '01'.
GPS monitor is larger and slightly upgraded on the '01'.
Lastly, I'd read a service bulletin that early 2000's had a problem with some plastic/nylon part within the clutch mechanism. BMW then redesigned the part. I don't think it involved a recall to replace the part, but I imagine it is something that would be done at the first clutch replacement if it had not caused a problem prior to that.
There are probably some other subtle changes that I'm not aware of. Hopefully other m5 owners will chime in with additional knowledge.

I think BMW might have done things to resolve Vanos issues on the '00 model in '01. Then they improved on it for the '02. You might want to check m5board.com. In '02 they changed the leather trim pattern on the rear seats. Most people wouldn't notice this. '03 models have a DVD nav and a regular parking light option via the high beam bulb - in addition to the angel eyes.
By the way, I'd stay away from 1st year models, i.e. the '00 E39 M5 and E60 M5.
