Aerodyne turbo lifetime

It was a while ago, but if I remember correctly it only lasted a few weeks at a time. Oil turned black fairly quickly. There was no drain I think and you could only put oil in not get it out. When bearings failed the whole turbo was dead since the inner bearing race was the main shaft; you can't fix the bearings. The vane controller was run off manifold pressure (two lines one ahead of the throttle and one after).
Looking for a new turbo manifold for my tii: M10 engine using a T3/T4? Thanks.

what size turbo are you using, for what power, and on what engine? I can't think of a setup or a budget that a traditional turbo could not satisfy. Even a Journal bearing one at that.

Turbo info

I have a 1972 2002tii with mechanical Kugelfischer fuel injection. There is a supplemental electric injector running off an O2 sensor. Currently it has a Rajay 302B40 turbo an HKS intercooler and runs about 12psi boost. The engine is a BMW M10 (2-valve) that is bored and stroked out to 2.15liters. It has a late style head with flat pistons and the CR is around 8:1. It probably makes around 210hp, which is not a lot these days, but it is 36 years old and I just want it to run reliably. It does not have to fight with WRXs with 600hp!

So is that the setup you want to use a variable vane turbo on?? It would definitely work, but it is extra mechanical parts that are rather unnecessary for such a technically "average" setup (as rare and awesome/strange the machine that the 2002 is).
