For the past three weeks, the my 318i would not start from time to time. Out of the blue, it would just not turn over at all. I would let it sit for a few hours or few days and she would start again.

Battery is new, alternator is fine, no check engine lights, but the car just would not start... not even a sound. Then, today I noticed that the driver side door was unlocked, but the other three were down (locked). Got in the car, tried to start it and NOTHING. Then, I got out, locked the doors with the key (driver side door)... unlocked the damn thing and got back in. Guess what? SHE STARTS!

Oh, and I have no idea how the driver door came to be unlocked.

That's just bizarre. Anyone have a clue why this might be happening?

I'm a Mercedes guy, but am looking for a few BMW's to let the public see and appreciate. I suggested to the organizers of the Myrtle Beach Oktoberfest that it might be nice to have an all-German car show at their event. They liked the idea and told me that since I thought of it, then I could find the cars for it. :) They want to start small this year and have a couple of each German marque. If the response and comments are good, then they may expand it next year.

The Myrtle Beach Oktoberfest is scheduled for October 9. The organizers would like to have a small display of classic German cars for the show. They are looking for one or two stock BMW's in pretty nice condition. No fee, no judging, just a display for the afternoon with lunch on them. Please contact me at len@sokoloff.com if you might be interested.

Hi folks

just joined you here from sunny Ireland.

I have a December 1998 735i which needs a new water pump and I need a diagram to show me the layout of the new belts as the old ones were destroyed when the pump failed - any ideas where i can get this.

Thanks in advance

We don't have our hands on the official press release from Hamann yet, but it looks like they've released a fine collection of goods for the BMW 7-Series. And as with all Hamann tuning packages, we see no big surprises other than a variation of front ends available to complement the rest of their standard body upgrades.

Given that BMW 7-Series owners are normally of an older demographic, having a variety of options from Hamann comes as no surprise. For those looking to customize but keep it simple, there's a front spoiler option to go with the side skirts and rear diffuser insert. In the rear are traditional Hamann-styled trunk and roof spoilers. It looks like they also offer a set of vented fenders that seem out of place (to us) on the luxury sedan.

Now those looking for a sportier look can opt for a front bumper which is surprisingly mild and fits the style of the 7-Series body quite well. In fact it lends a little bit of the 3-Series look to the front end which is subtle and clean.

And those looking for the ultimate in customization is the Evo front bumper which is definitely more aggressive than the standard front bumper with the addition of a lower profile design. It reminds us of the difference between a standard E90 front and the M-Tech E90 front bumper. The front bumpers look to come with optional LEDs.

As always, Hamann has a collection of wheels to choose from to outfit the car and a quad-tipped exhaust system. We'll be sure to update this post when we get the official press release.

hi friends:

I am trying to replace my headlights bulbs with Hella H7 55w bulb. But when I take off my old bulbs which were not installed by me, I was surprised to see the socket did not look like H7 style.

I am attaching 2 pictures here so you can see what they look like. I am wondering if the previous owner modified the circuits, or what I am showing here actually is the bulb and its socket together. I doubt if the bulb in the picture can be taken off from the socket after which I might be able to see the 2-pin H7 underneath?

Thanks a lot. I have already unhooked the bulbs, so I hope some pointers pop up quickly. Otherwise I won't be able to drive at night:(

The BMW M3 Tiger Edition, aka the M3 for people who like Mixed Martial Arts and t-shirts with rhinestones, is only going to be launched in China, but that hasn't stopped BMW from releasing a photo gallery of the car.

The gallery shows a bunch of actors doing some "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"-style acrobatics, as well as a radioactive orange paint. Unfortunately, the Ed Hardy Tiger motif interior is not on display.

Any suggestions on selling my 2000 528i in southern california. It has 130,000freeway miles but in the last month the ABS module went out and the radiator cracked and dropped all the fluid.

Anyway, I have another vehicle and would just like to sell this one, but do not know if it is worth getting repaired and selling or just trying to sell as is to someone who could repair?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Looking at/for E46 convert, what to look for? ~$10K, or E36?

First of all, do you think I can get into a decent (early) E46 for around $10k, or I would I do better to go for an E36?

Were the changes to the early E46, such that I should avoid early models?

Currently, I drive an A4 Avant, how would you compare reliability maintenance, parts, and major repair costs?

I'm looking for a well loved car, lowish miles, with good maintenance history. What specific items should I pay specific attention to on an early E46?

I'm thinking manual transmission, possibly manual top (I think I have gleaned that some are manual - just seems less to go wrong), what other options engines would you recommend?
