Coming home from getting a haircut, i was playing with a modded 325i i saw on old milton. Nothing competitive, just friendly play. He just cut around me, and I changed lanes and hit the gas to go up and pass him.... Dinan CAI roared, car lurched forward, and Valentine One went psycho. I immediately hit the breaks (pretty hard) and as I looked at my speedo, I braked 5mph over the limit, nothing horrible. Turned my music down to a legal level, rolled up my windows, and cruised by the po-po at a normal speed, a slight smile on my face.
The cop was far out of sight when I started to speed up, and if it wasn't for it, I would have probably gotten nailed at my peak show-off passing speed.
If any of you don't have a V1, it's a wise investment. If it saves you from one or two tickets, its paid for itself.
You know, I've been meaning to get one of these radar things but I keep forgetting....Iv'e seen the Valentine hidden in the rear view mirror for like $300 on Umnitza.com (minus installation). But what is the best Radar currently on the market? I always see so many at the RICER car hook up store at the mall and they all look cheap....

Keep in mind though, that $300 does not include the actual V1. That's a mounting kit. If you buy that kit and the V1, you're talking $700.
And as for the best one, I did a huge amount of research on the internet before buying anything, and determined the V1 is by far the best. The passport 8500 is probably the 2nd best, and there are some diehard passport fans who would say it's the best... but in my opinion, I'd trust my car and license to nothing but valentine.
And above all remember, it's a precautionary measure, not a preventive one.
hey I have a passport 8500 X50, and before I say anything I have owned both.
the only differance and this is also what the experts say on the matter, the V1 has greater laser detection not by much but it is significantly better than the X50,
The X50 has greater range on all other bands manly the one I'm worryed about is Ka band since in NZ they don't use K and X band and I live only where highway patrol cars live, the X50 with all honesty is a far better detection device than the V1 when traveling on the open road,
either all are a good DETECTION device but the X50 is cheaper and I'm afraid that the X50 does a better job for me than the V1 if ur interested I got mine for $500 nz dollers and about to buy another for about $450 that includes all the installation kit aswell! thats $309.50 american.
as I say it all depends on what kind of equipment the cops work with around u for the best system but either one of these two would be my first pic.

Unless it's POP (which V1 detects, and cannot be used to give a ticket, since it's inaccurate), radars take a good few seconds to start up when turned on. In 3 seconds you detector can go off and you can slow down.
<!--QuoteBegin-Deloriant@Nov 10 2004, 12:53 AM I don't see why you would waste 300$ on a mounting kit when the V1 is legal in most states
It looks ugly with a cord dangling from your windshield. I want to do the jimmy540i.com mount, but I'm too lazy. One day...

No the mounting kit is an actual rearview mirrror that hides the valentine inside so you get the data read out on the surface of the glass itself in little red led numbers and symbols. It really cool. No wires or nothing. It looks like a plain ordinery rearview mirror but wehen you turn it on or it detects a radar the glass bit lights up and the numbers scroll across w/ sound of course.
Check it out...its at umnitza.com and autowerks too.

But I don't live in Ohio, I live in New York/New Jersey. Plus if you get the hidden one who will know...
Unfortunately, I'm stuck in this bastion of liberalism known as Ohio. As for them not knowing, let's say you get stopped for something stupid- like a burned-out taillight. Cop sees that detector, add a couple hundred to your fine.

Just so you know.. a cop can tell if your using a radar detector.. they have a certain system that detects your detector... trust me.. I've gotten caught... I was in traffic crusing doing the speed limit with cars on either side of me.. and passed a cop.. by the time he caught up... there were no other cars around me.. and pulled me over... trust me.. they can tell no matter how consealed it is....
