I got a buddy with a stock Honda Civic SI which has approx. 127hp with V-tech told me that he could take on my 1991 318i (I actually don't doubt that). So we booked a time at a registered for a track, and at first I thought It was goign to be a drag track. Where I live in Toronto, traffic is so crazy, street racing is not a good idea not that you can go anywhere. So I thought I was going to make a fool out of myself with. I mean my heavy ass 91 E30 318i that weights well over 3000 pounds with 137hp approx. (correct me if i'm wrong) vs. my friend's 1997 Honda Civic SI that weights under 3000 with V-Tech. We we started on the track, and I was like...what the hell am I doing racing him in 4 door 318i. So we took off, on first gear we were even. On 2nd geer he pulled past me.. and on third I caught up a bit, right behind his bumper. By 4, I heard his V-tech.. so I was laughing, and I thought.. this is game over. And then all of a sudden. There were all these twist and turns on the track. So I was like holy crap, better down shift the slock this baby down. But when I took on the first curve. I noticed that my 318i handled it perfectly fine. So at this point if itt was curve after curve.. and I was able to maintain my speed without ease. Then I start to notice that I was many car lenghts ahead of my friend.. I don't know what was slowing him down so much. I didn't image that it could be the curves although a lot of them are sharp and I had to down shift on a few of them. So the race ended.. and he didn't showp up till 15 second later. I have been told that BMW have excellent handling. But I have never had the chance to experience it. And experiencing it for the first time.. I mean wow this is on a 318i not even an IS. And it took all the curves like a champ. I asked my friend what slowed him down. and he told me that the handling on his Honda was horrible.. and if he maintained that speed with me.. he would have lost control. So I told him that my BMW had no problem. So then we switched cars to re do the track. And wow.. big difference, Hondas have such crappy handling.. it feels like that you'll loose control when you take a sharp curve and you gotta slow down so much. And my friend was already at the finish line. And I didn't get there till 30 seconds later. My friend did ask me for a re match in a straight drag race. I told him that I'm not going to bother becuase in a stragiht drag he'll swallow me by far. But I was still really impressed with my 318i. Although a little weak but exceptionally well handling. But in a drag race. I think a 325i or an is would be able to swallow my friends Civic. I know that when I used to have my 1984 325E I was able to dust all these done up civics to. That's it for today folks.

yeah where did you go? i dont know of any tracks open right now in the T-dot. great race though, once again proving that bmw's are not made to go fast straight they are made to handle.

your friend is mistaken. it is nothing like a turbo. it may jump but that is because the engine is finally getting into the powerband. VTEC isnt a miraculous hp booster that kills all the competition.
