I was driving to Stuttgart the other day and the Autobahn was not too crowded so I decided (despite the gas prices in Germany ghead ) to have a little adrenaline rush. My M3 topped out at about 260km/h (160mph).
That way I caught up to a Porsche 911 Turbo not too far from Stuttgart. He was on the right lane going about 160km/h(100mph). I was about to pass him when he saw me. He pulled to the left lane and stomped the gas. I shifted back in 4th and also punched the throttle. So basically a roll-on in 4th from about 100mph.
Well here's the result... I slowly but surely pulled on him. The moment he realized I was getting close he pulled back to the right lane and I passed him hitting about 240kmh/h(150mph). Later on we went to cruising speed since we were getting close to the city. I let him pass me again and we waved at each other... a nice race and all in good fun
But check out the irony... all that happened about 5miles from Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen and I'm sure you all know who is located there... the Porsche main factory, so victory on the road satisfying both meanings of the expression
I also happened to have my dig. camera with me, so I took a shot of my prey
ha ha. Not fast enough. What's the standard top speed (non-limited) on an e36 m3? I didn't think you'd need an evo to go that fast. If you're talking acceleration... well, shame on me, but I'm unsure about the 911's top end portion of the curve.
I don't know what you guys meant by M3 evo, but we do have only the M3 with 3.0 litre 286HP engine and the M3 with 3.2 litre 321HP engine. These are the real and original M3's. Furthermore there was a few months in 1995 a GT version of the M3 3.0 litre, doing 295HP......
Topspeed of the 3.0 M3 without limiter: ~272 km/h (169 mph)
Topspeed of the 3.2 M3 without limiter: ~285 km/h (177 mph)

Good to know I can break 160. .
That's what I meant about the evo. The 286hp one. I didn't know about the gt 295 hp... or did I... I don't remember... poop. I'm going to hit the auto books again.

The Merc was probably going somewhere about 80-90mph. The speeds on a 3 lane Autobahn are roughly 60-70mph right lane, 70-90mph middle and 90mph+ left lane.

hey you think that good
me and my dad on holiday in germany, caught ferry over and back.
my dad had just bought his new Audi A8 6.0 V12 (nice). so we are travelling along the Autobahn on exact same part. along comes an F50 (very nice), in red of course. so wee are doing around 110mph, and he is doing around 125mph. so of course the bite bites and my dad pushes on, so we are tailing him. and he sees us, so he pushes on, and again so do we. we are doing around 150mph each, side by side now. clear road ahead, and we all ppuusshh on 155 to 160 to 170mph. i mine cool. then i dont why really the ferrari pulled off and we pulled back and they talked and commented on each others cars. then my dad pushed on and left him in the past. a spec in the mirror.
That's a pretty cool story. I used to be a big Audi fan when I was a teen and still like their cars but if you look at the numbers it seems like the F50 driver took it easy there...
Power:
F50 513bhp vs. A8v12 450bhp
Torque:
F50 470 Nm vs. A8v12 520bhp
WEIGHT:
F50 1229kg (2710lbs) vs. A8v12 1995kg (4398 lbs) (!)
Good story tho... make sure you take a digital camera with you next time... Would have been a nice picture!
Dont get tooo excited guys - thats not a Turbo, its a regular Carrera, probably from arounf 1989 -1993, "only" packing 250 bhp.
No real need to pat yourself on the back about it.

Because its not a wide bodied 964, plus it doesnt have the big rear spoiler to cover the intercooler, it has the normally aspirated pop up spoiler.
Its not a turbo.
