So a week or two ago I had a problem with my 2002 where I lost all oil pressure. Well i haven't gotten a chance to fix it, and in the meantime have been driving my moms 04 passat wagon.
Well i was driving home about an hour ago in my moms car, and decided to take the back canyons home.
So I almost reach the section where it really starts to get windy and a Z4 pulls out in front of me. now my first thought is, "damn asshole can't even wait till I pass. now I have to ride his ass all the way up the hill" then I notice that he is hitting a pretty good line so my thought immediately switches to "hmm, i wonder if I can keep up with this guy. That would be pretty impressive caue I'm driving a freaking front wheel drive WAGON."
well he must have seen that I was following his quick pace, because he stepped it up a notch to the point where his tires were squeeling regularly. of course mine were also screaming cause it is front wheel drive and it gets zero traction under acceleration.
Well i didn't stay on his ass the entire time, but when he got to the top of the hill where there is a view point, he was only about 3-5 seconds ahead of me. Not too shabby considering I was drivinga station wagon.
I talked to the guy for a few min. while my brakes cooled off, then right before we got back in out cars to continue he says to me, "think you can keep up this time"
Now if this guy actually feels good about pulling a only 3 second gap on passat wagon after 2 miles of tight tight canyons he must be a fucking idiot.
Now I'm definately not trying to say Vdub is better than BMW. There is absolutely no comparision. I just thought somepeople might find it interesting that driver skill can really make that much difference.
Too bad I didn't have my 02. that guys ass would have been handed to him repeatedly if I was in my car.

Edit: Guess I forgot to mention that it was a rental, but he told me his normal car was a modded out vette with brembos and suspension. He also told me he thought the Z4 was heavy and underpowered, but that still doesn't explain why he can't pull more than 3 seconds on passat wagon. Fool just needs to learn how to carry his momentum more through turns.
