it was my first time in an E39 M5. this guys is part of our local bmw club.. he has a tubi exhaust on it and the thing sounds AMAZING!!.... well we went to a local part of town which is isolated and industrial. its pretty much a big oval track (more like a really rounded square).. so we were filming a bit and i got to drift in one of the corners and he hammered it out of the corner and reached 160 in a few seconds.... OMG i love the M5....
sorry for the short shitty story but i was in so much amazement.
my moms friend let me take out his M5 that has camber plates, BBS rims with toyo type r compound tires, brembo 14 inch rotors with 6 piston calipers up front, and UUC short shift kit. I asked if he was coming and he said "No, but make sure you go somewhere you can really ring it out in second, I mean full throttle from very low rpm all the way to redline" and with that I was off. Supposedly his wife told my mom he has never let ANYONE drive his car and the only reason he let me drive it (i was only 17 at the time) was because he is a driving instructor for BMW CCA and he has seen me driving my 02 in the canyons before and could tell I can really drive. Kinda made me feel warm and fuzzy inside
But any way, I had absolutely no idea how much power the M5 had (i knew the specs but I didn't comprehend what 400HP could really do even to such a heavy car) and when I floored it in second and shifted to third I noticed I had already hit 110 (it was a public street with a street limit of 35, oops) Not only did that car go like shit, but it stopped even faster... so nuts. I instantly fell in love with that car. It is the perfect car, enough room for a family to comfortbly travel long distances, yet still has amazing road handling characeristics and has sooooo much power
Im going to the next BMW CCA track event that he is instructing at, and he said he is going to let me ride in his car while he hot laps the track WOW, i can't wait

lwebb12, your damn lucky to have that car!!! do you take it to the canyon roads much? or the track ever?
I wouldn't say lucky. In some respects yes however I worked really hard and drove shitty cars for 7 years to be able to plant my rear in the drivers seat.
I have driven on some fun roads but no canyons yet. I will take it to the track after I change the clutch out.

yea... i remember taking out my friends e39 m5. I was already amazed and he told me to press the sport button which made the ride even more fun. E39 is still my favorite BMW...

Wow, i was looking into being an airforce mechanic, didn't realize they made so much. O well, I'm going to CalPoly to major in Mechanical Engineering, and my goal when I graduate is to get a job designing high performance race engines for one of the big manufacturers, but not an american one, lol.
BTW, IMO seven years of driving shitty cars before owning an M5 isn't too bad, i've already been driving my 34 year old Bimmer for three years, hmmm four more to go before my M5? i could deal with that...
