I raced a WRX (on a safe closed strip of road) and guess what... I won!
He had a full exhaust, CAI and boost control installed! Of course I didn't get him of the line but I ruled the 2nd gear roll-on. He kept on coming up every time his turbo kicked in but stayed at least half a car length behind me. I took advantage of my chip mod that gave me an additional 300rpm
I was really surprised. The 2.5l engine is really a little miracle. Watch out you turbo japanese imports! B)
Hmmm... he must have been a bad driver and you must be a fairly decent driver, the weight of the car is about the same BMW 3087 lbs WRX 3085 lbs.
Horsepower
BMW
189 hp @ 5900 rpm
WRX
227 hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque
BMW
181 ft-lbs @ 4200 rpm
WRX
217 ft-lbs @ 4000 rpm
Those are both stock numbers. So you have a chip which would bring you up to almost 200hp if you are lucky.

Well I congratulate you on being a good driver.

Well, I gladly accept the honors but I have done more than just the chip upgrade:
- free flow catback
- racing headers
- CAI
- lightweight flywheel
- short shifter + clutch stop (makes a small but nevertheless a difference)
I'm not sure how much gain all of that gave me, but I am planning to put my car on a Dyno soon.

I have a 328 and wrx's walk me like there's no tomorrow.
You must be a very good driver, and he must be a very poor driver. In either case, good job, but just so you know, that was very abnormal.

For starters, if it would not had surprised me myself, I would not have posted it
I'm not sure what year the WRX was, I guess a 2000.
He was quick down low and he was really close up to 60mph, then I gained about a car length. The reason why he could not get me at lower speeds is my lighter flywheel. That got my 325 LOTS of low-end.
wrx's are fast, but require someone who knows how to drive them. I've beaten my friends 2000 wrx which has a shitload of mods done to it including a bigger turbo and boost control in a rolling start from 25mph. keep in mind, he's a good driver too. problem with wrx's is the 4wd isn't able to handle the load that some of cars put out thus requiring more suspension modding to make them grip up properly and go. no doubt about it, his car is faster then mine, but 4wd is not the best for straight line racing when lots of power.

bmwusa claims 7.0 seconds for zero to 60 in the E36 328i, you would be slower than that putting you roughly 2 seconds behinde the WRX stock, he musta suck horribly for you to be able to beat him, what are the expected gains of your MODS? What brands are they?

As for 0-60 I timed my 325 at little over 6sec (G-Tech) but like I said it was NOT from the line where I beat him.
I am not sure about the HP gain from the mods but I guess between 20-30. I will put it on a dyno soon and post the exact numbers.

when were you guys racing a 2000 wrx? last time i checked it was 2002... and the time before that when i checked shit if he bought a cheaper turbo upgrade such as the vf34 with a exhuast system he would be to 315hp, (thats to jr)dont beleive me? well start. anyways i highyl doubt you beat a rex unless you were racing a dude with one leg and one arm. either way good kill.. even though i call you a liar hahahaha sorry bro it just doesnt match up.
jr what turbo upgrade did your friend have by the way? the vf34 will work a modded e36 m3 easily.... the vf34 is a very affordable turbo upgrade and bolts on... so it was probably this one 315 hp doesnt sound like something a 325/328/or m3 will take (e36)
if it was a 2000 wrx then it wasnt a wrx it was a 2.5RS sooo feel great cuz your car is just as slow as a shit subaru...ur cool dude and subarus have AWD not 4 wd so i dont know were that whole suspension thing came from. ur awesome keep up the street racing!
