A while back there was a thread about which car was faster--the 330 or the G35. Let me say, without a doubt, for the average driver (i.e., me) the 330i perf pkg is definitely faster than the G35 6MT. Let me explain:
Anyone who has driven a G35 knows it has tons of power. In my experience, I felt as though it had too much power for me to drive well, because I am just a fairly good--although untrained--average driver. Whereas the 330 has a lot of power, but is fairly easy to pilot, even accelerating quickly.
Late last night I was cruising home from work, northbound on 280 in the Bay Area. As I came into SF, I began racing a G35 6MT. At one point we were well over 110mph, but that's another story for another time...
Anyhow, anyone who has gotten off 280 at Sixth Street knows that the lights on Sixth are timed so badly that you hit a red at every single intersection. Sure enough, G35 guy wanted to race me at each one. And at EACH LIGHT, I smoked his ass off the line. I could see his wheels chirp when he shifted into second gear, which made me think that--like me--this guy was just an average driver who liked to drive fast. It occurred to me that I was beating him off the line each time because that G35, when driven by an average driver, does not perform nearly as well as my 330 does when driven by an average driver.
Simply put, it is my belief that although the G35 may have more chutzpah than the 330 when both are driven by accomplished drivers, when two average guys--even guys who like to drive fast and are maybe a little more skilled than the average Joe--go head to head, the guy in the Bimmer will win because he need not be an expert driver to get the car to really perform.
See you on 280...
A faster car is a faster car. A crappy driver in a z06 vette will beat the crap out of a great driver in a civic. An average driver in a 330 will get owned by an average driver in a g35. You got lucky or the G35 owner sucked REALLY bad. The thing is, the G35 is a very easy car to drive, its not a sports car. And how do you know its a 6mt and not the auto?

you can tell bc u can hear shifts, also u can see the hood fall and raise during a shift, so u know the time between shifts obviously isnt an auto . . . also they were at stop signs so if he rolls back or revs his engine off the line u know he's 1/2 clutching. plus he said he screeched his tires at shifts obviously couldnt do it well. and no1 can NOT drive an auto smoothly.
umm when u have a driver who shifts slowly or improperly he loses time AND speed meaning that his speed is too little for that shift makin his rpms fall less and a g35 only gets power at higher rps. also witha vette and a civic, a civic wont catch up, but a 330 zhp and a g35. g35 may have 45 more hp but it comes much later on the rev range along with torque, its 400lb heavier. and also i believe the zhp has a faster 0-60 and quarter mile time in the first place then the g35. with all this 45 hp isnt much, plus zhps have chips which give more power and lower rpms even more than a 330, at 4000 rpms, a 330 zhp prolly has more hp than a g35. bmw knows how to make motors, infiniti doesnt.
Nissan made the skyline, silvia and the z series for decades. I think theyre pretty good with engines. Im a BMW fan myself but Nissan still makes a fine engine.
Since Ive driven both cars (the 330 alot more than the G35) I know that the G35 feels a good amount faster. Lets bench race and compare
2003 330ci (manual)
-225 hp (@5900) and 214 ft lb torque (@3500)
-3285 lbs (curb weight)
-0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds
-14.9 sec qtr mile
2003 G35 (6mt)
-280 hp (@6000) and 270 ft lb torque (@ 4800)
-3435 lbs (curb weight)
-0-60 mph 5.8 seconds
-14.23 sec qtr mile
------------------------------------
The G35 has 55 (not 45) more hp and 56 ft lbs of torque.
It is ONLY 150 lbs heavier and not 400 lbs.
It reaches the 0-60 0.6 seconds faster and the 1/4 mile 0.67 seconds faster.
thats a huge difference btw.
I am a 330 fan myself but for the average driver, the G35 still would be faster.

learn to read buddy
I SAID ZHP!!!
280hp at 6200 not 6000 not much difference but hey
REGULAR 330 has 225
280-235=45
ok so i ws wrong on the weight, e46 gained 200lb from the e36 eh ?
zhp 0-60 = 5.8
also skyline is an i6 not this v6 bullshit. besides its a TWIN TURBO an the power sill comes late. also 280hp is weak FOR 3.5L a gt3 isa 3.6 h6 and gets 380. the 911 twin turbo is only 35hp mre but it comes at like 4000rps and max torque at like 3200. and max rps on g35 is 6600 it only sees 280hp for a few hndren rpms. inteh m3 (a 3.2 333hp, it come late but the redline is 8000) who knows maybe the nissan motor wont last if there redline is high, and they dont want to look like they have short lived motors
these numbers don't mean much imho. i take it in real life one has to corner, brake and shift, which in my book takes care of 45bhp any day.
i test drove the 350z which is probably close to that infinity thing. gimmie a big break, that shifter is like rowing compared to the 330ipp. car is nose heavy too. i won't call it a piece of crap outright, but in my subjective view there is no comparo, bmw's a class ahead... maybe slower in a straight line, so what.
skyline a different animal, will go toe to toe with an m3. however g35 aint no skyline...
i am happy connie smoked that guy. just don't kill anyone: you guys really do this 110 mph bs in the middle of sanfran ??! kids these days....

well the g is actually the new gen "skyline". And even tho I was wrong on the HP for the 330ci with PP, the G is still faster. And I believe we were talking about off the line street racing right now and not racing on the track. We dont need to extend this conversation to the "taking corners" and "i like how the 330 looks better" topic. I was merely talking about how the G35 is faster than the 330 for the average driver (if both drivers were "average").
since when is the new gen of a sumthing, turn form a sport car to a luxury, TT inline 6 to a natural v6, awd to rwd . . . and wouldnt they sell more keepin called skyline . . .
