So, I decided to play around with the Bimmer on the highway this morning on my way to school. I ended up using the sport-shifter (tiptronic transmission, I think it is) and I manually shifted it at redline through all 5 gears within only a few moments. As I suddenly realized I was going just a bit too fast, I noticed the speedometer: 120 MPH. I couldn't have been going for more than one or two minutes.
Originally posted by xsperf@Apr 7 2005, 12:28 AM see, thats the funny thing.. we all(or some of us) think our cars our fast, and then when you think about it, m3's and m5's are even faster! lol
Tell me about it. First time I was on the highway, I'm thinking "wow, it takes a little bit to get to 70, huh?" And I looked down to my speedometer, and I'm at a relatively blistering pace of 105mph!
...
I thought I was going maybe 70, 75...
BTW, m3 maneuvers real well at 120 (lane changes)! my old 318 didn't even go that fast straight!

My 4-banger BMW 318i has a chip limited speed of 210kph. That translates to 130.2mph and I still had 200 to 300 left before redline. I was also running 245/55 16s on all 4s. I believe the german versions are higher geared than the US ones. Mine's stock off the dealership, no mods, nothing except for a KN air filter and Bosch Platinum 4s and of course Shell's V-Power fuel (100 Octane) If it wasn't for the wing in the back I'd probably get more but it's awesome in the curves especailly when you're doing 170kph.
haha, thats awesome. I've gotten my car all the way up to 140mph before the damn speed limiter seems like it made my engine died and I went down to 128mph... It probably coulda pulled more, but damn limiter -_-

Just a wee bit faster than my civic.

It's a 323i automatic... 170ish horsepower. It's not too much faster than my 5er, and I am dead even with a 5 speed LX Civic from a roll... from a stop, I can take it by a couple of inches.
I can get my E36 M3 over 60 in second gear and over 90 in third. I've done 140 on cruise control on I40 in Northern Arizona driving back to Cali from Oklahoma. I did the chip mod to my computer, I have no limiter, hehehehe. I used to think my moms 325 was fast back in the day, now when I am home and driving it I get mad! Still a nice car though. Still the best crusing car I ever had (still got it in storage) was my 1986 (e23) 735i. No stupid electronics, just a nice smooth sleeper with that 3.5 liter engine. It got up and went for a big car and at 120 was nice and quiet and smooth. Time for some restoration though, NH winters are harsh!
Yeah ... winter sucks...
What chip did you do? Mine's a 98 and OBDII, and I'm wondering whether I should Shark Inject it. Is it worth the price? And what price should I look for? I'm looking at $350-$400... I can't remember exactly.
Okay, sorry for the offtopic.

It is worth it but you should decide if you are going to do any mods to it first. for example i am getting the M50 manifold, Euro HFM, SC kit and prolly pully kit. If i do the software now or after a couple of the mods i will have to redo it again and again so for me i need to wait till i get all my mods on the car then shark it. price wise i would say look for between $300 and $400.
Makes sense, seeing as I forgot the thing's a one time bag, yah. Thanks for the pointers. I'll start out with an intake and headers-down exhaust. Figure if I do the exhaust first it'll get rid of that heat shield rattle...
