All this summertime driving fun and no one is posting some good Driving Tales.....
Come one where are the good stories!
Here's one....
I was driving my son home from day care the other day. 2 lane road lots of twisties and I'm doing the speed limit in my M5. Great fun. Don't want the newborn baby with a neck injury or whiplash.
So Friday I'm heading to daycare to pickup my son. (note I haven't picked him up yet) and I'm cruising along a curvy subdivision street. Lots of kids around, day care only about 10 blocks away and this a-hole in a POS comes up behind me and starts tailgating me. Then he honks his horn. Like I'm supposed to go faster!
So we head into a sharp corner and he decides he has a plan to pass me and crosses the double yellow and guns it around a hair pin turn. You ever think "man I wish I could be there when some idiot seriously get smeared". Well I wish I had a camera going cause he head ends a COP coming the other way. Nails him hard, both cars going about 45mph for a combined speed of 90 for a head on collision.
I came to a stop and ran to help the COP who was very rattled and knocked out for a few but other wise was ok and was able to get up and walk away. He was taken to the hospital and I'm sure has a concussion. The other guy driving an older 1970s 4 door Buik put his face and 1/2 his body through the windshield. I didn't even bother help him, one less a-hole on the road. He was taken to the hospital (obviously) as well and from what I hear is going to be ok after a while. Turns out he wasn't wearing a seatbelt either, he ended up pretty seriously messed up.
Being that this literally happened right next to me I am extremely lucky to have been totally missed by flying car parts. Also when he started to pass me I swerved in tight as I could into the corner to give as much space as possible.
I can't imagine this guy is going to drive again. After he gets out of the hospital I get to go to his court date as a witness for the cop. The whole thing has me pretty riled up. Boston drivers pull this kind of crap all the time and Boston cops rarely do anything about it. The saving grace of this incident is that he hit a cop so they may actually throw the book at him.
