I have a story, and some questions on this one. Sitting at a light, 11PM on a thursday night. A G35 pulls up next to me, nice car I like them. Well without a rev from his engine or anything this dude floors it, and I am ALWAYS down for a challenge, if I get beat or not. Well I punched it too, and all the way to triple digits on a city street we were right next to each other, and he got a good car length on me off the line cause he decided we were racing without telling me. So I caught him and we ran next to each other til 100, and then he backed off. I would say it was a tie, but he did get the jump on me.
Now that's the story (and my E36 M3 has some Mods), now how many HP in those damn G35s? I like to win, and if we were that close it's time to buy the supercharger!!! Man they must have some good numbers, anyone know their 0-60 time? Hope someone with an E46 M3 beats up on a G35 for me!!!

I didn't look up HP - as you should know, 0-60 is more than just horsepower - it's torque, Drivetrain, shift style, shift speed, wind direction, tires, incline/decline, body weight, blah blah blah....
Anyway, it seems about equal/a little bit slower than a stock e36 of any type m3. The 2004 G35 (6-speed Man.) seems just a tad faster than the e36m3 sedan automatic, the 2004 6MT seems a half second slower than a e36m3 coupe, and the 2003 slower than the e36m3 lightweight. I didn't include the convertibles because those really aren't true sports cars (ha ha someone's mad at me for saying that).
EDIT: Keep in mind that if you were driving an automatic, you lost a second and a half (approx.) from the get go. If you were in a manual, you probably lost a touch more - that's what happens when they don't tell you they're racing.
I have a manual and he never gave me a sign he wanted to race me, I have no doubt he would have only had a view of my tail lights if that were the case!
I guess that depends on what year, I did a quick search and found, "At the heart of the G35 is a front-midship mounted 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6, producing 280 horsepower and 270 foot pounds of torque" from an unofficial source.
Maybe that's a newer version of the G35 or something, but either way, that's buttloads of well balanced power. Impressive that something like an m3 with 240/238 hp/torque can keep up with and possible pass!
Even if you knew you were racing, he wouldn't see your taillights, you'd see his!
Well, I don't know what kind of mods you got.. but if there isn't much.. you don't stand much of a chance.
The g35s got around 260hp and the car is light compared to the m3. In this family, we have a g35 sedan (auto), a 525, a 528 and a toyota. The g35 makes every single one of those cars look asbolutely pathetic in terms of power. The 525 is, but the 528 is actually decently quick.
g35 has no issue hangin with and often pulling on a 540... and 540s are dead even with e36m3s.
Yes... these other cars are getting powerful and fast, but trust me, thats all they have going for them. The G feels cheap already and rattly / light at only 30k miles. But if you want to beat these fast cheapies, FI is the only way to go!
I have my M3 chipped, intake, lightweight flywheel and short shifter, plus a few added bonuses, and he was not able to pull away, like I said, he launched on me and I caught up and was even with him when we hit 100, and they he started to decelerate, so did I. My M3 is a 98, doesn't feel cheap at all. I rented a G35 Sedan last time I was in Florida and I was VERY impressed with the car, I love the look of the coupe. I have respect for that car, so it was an interesting race. When my exhaust gets here I figure I will be around 250-255 hp in performance, I am not sure what the chip, intake and exhaust total will be in boost, but I can say that lightweight flywheel give me a LOT more rear wheel HP! I do think its time for an Active Autowerks supercharger though......
Ahem. Like I was saying.

Now, G35's are nice cars, and they're getting better every year, but I doubt that you would "undoubtedly lose" as some of the other guys were saying. It seems like it's more of a tie. Of course, this is assuming you're driving the sedan (which I favor), in which case if you had those mods you've got him down until the upper ranges (with the HP advantage, they will oust you in top speed, I think).
Oh yeah, and the curb weight of the lightest stock G35 is 3350lbs, a stock m3 is at 3175lbs. So the G35 is not light compared to the m3.
I have a 1998 Coupe, and I have no idea what the 0-60 numbers on it are, but I am close to 5 I think. I can "kinda" keep up with my buddy Z06, and that has 400 ponies pushing it to a 0-60 of like 4.4. I mean my car is not a slouch and I wish I knew I was racing cause I am positive he would not have been able to get ahead of me. Just my thought. Although I like these discussions, the G35 is by far my favorite Japanesse import, and I hate Japanesse cars, but I do like that one. Anyone else have insight, PLEASE I am curious for info!!!
I think they are nice cars as well, but right now I am favoring the Nissan 350z despite maintenance issues - that kind of performance for $27k is phenomenal. Too bad there are the maintenance issues...
Dude-
I don't want to sound like an old man on the board but.."triple digits on city streets" Come on! What if someone pulled out on you? What if someone stepped out from the curb? You hit debris and pop a tire?
You drive one of the finest vehicles ever produced- It's not a street racer; thats for 16 yr olds in rice burners.
Go to the track
Seriously

You can't tell me you haven't tried pushing it till triple digits, even on accident.
I was in a e46 330Ci and I had the cruise set to 75 (speed limit 70)....and I had to pass a truck. Well I just pressed the gas...and before I knew it....I was doing 105.
I see your point, but I prefer sticking to the streets, more risk....living on the edge.
