My very first day (new owner, never driven one until a week ago) with my almost new 330i, 5 sp. Still learning the controls, I'm strolling down the freeway about 70 around noon with light to moderate traffic moving between 70-75, slightly distracted by trying to figure out the cd player, when I see about 75 yards ahead some crazy guy in a small american car does a 180 degree and ends up facing traffic! in the second lane.....if this guy had just stayed put, it would have been one thing, but then he seemed to try and get out of his situation by first moving toward the third lane then switching directions and edging toward the first lane, all the time FACING on-coming traffic!. Well things got very interesting very fast, with people on all sides spinning out of control, one guy in front of me did a couple of 360's......it was like one of those action movies.......I believe I hit the brakes sorta hard to avoid the 360 guy and skidded toward the right, but then suddenly the car righted itself and I found myself moving parallel with another guy at about a 45degree angle moving toward the right shoulder, moving fast both of us, he was about 10 feet in front of me at about the very same angle skidding. Somehow I realized that unless I could hit the shoulder first and somehow get around this guy who was slipping and slidding toward the unpaved area as I was, that I was a dead duck and I would hit the freeway embankment on the other side of the gravel/dirt/weeded shoulder at a very bad angle. Somehow, I hit the shoulder first, felt the rear end slide into the loose rock/gravel/dirt and I must have given it just the right gas and that baby grabbed hold solid like i couldn't believe and I shot past that dude through the weeds and back onto the freeway into clear sailing. I hope those kind of days are rare. NOt some sort of initiation rite?
