I come up on a light today on a bit of a slope ... 2 lanes. In the right lane right next to me I see a new Toyota FJ Cruiser ... and suddenly it starts. He lets it roll back a bit, then moves it up a little, then lets it roll back ...
"Brilliant" I think "And the more the merrier" ... So I start doing it too. The two middle aged women in their SUVs behinds us were about to shit their pants. I looked over and noticed the guy had the same smug look on his face as me as we got going.
I love doing this at lights. It's like "pre-staging" with the ricers.
I love stopping a few feet in front of the line at lights, then when the opposing lights go yellow, I start letting up on the clutch ... that way I'm at the line and already moving when it turns green so I can just nail it if need arises.
Works great when someone is trying to cut in front of you from a light and you don't wanna do a full blown race launch.
Race launches, yeah. Having that extra forward motion would prevent me from slip-sliding on the white lines when they're wet. Lost one or two stoplight drag races on account of that.

If it's wet, it's hopeless ... I don't even try. Anything can beat me off the line. I seriously can spin them all the way through 2nd gear when it's damp, if I really pin it.

heh I really dislike people with auto-matics at stop lights that keep creeping closer and closer and closer while the light is red. Eventually some a-hole behind me wants me to put it in gear and move up too. I'm like why? I'll go when the light turns green. In rush hour stop and go heavy traffic I really have no desire to be clutching at ever light creeping up. I stop at a safe distance behind the car in front of me and then stay there until the light turns green.

When traffic is really thick I try to leave a gap and just let the car idle itself along in 1st so by the time I get to the stopped cars, they start moving and I don't have to stop.
yea i will downshift WAY before the light sometimes just to hope that i dont have to completely stop... I really do hate it when people creep up also, i like a little space in my rear sometimes...
