I am on my way to work this morning, driving as per usual, I am a slightly aggressive driver, can't help it.

I ma at a light that is at the crest of a down hill segment that turns into a very tight curve that is banked correctly and then incorrectly, you then have the choice of going straight at the end or making it more interesting by drifting to the right and fling down a bcobblestone hill/

I was at a red light, the audi had been behind me on the free way but of course he couldnt keep up to me. I took the exit and came to the red light, it turned green as I stopped and he came up on the left, the curve is a left hander BTW, he thinks he is going to cut me out and make me take the slow side, he passes me at the light at about 20, I dumped the clutch and got good traction and was immediately next to him and passing, very li8ttel room left and I cut over to the left and take the curve at WAY higher sped than I ever have before , even in my Porsche, the M3 took it like a champ, I left dude in the dust, actually think I scared him pretty badly when I cut over as I was prety close to him when I did it. I got over and he was instantly slowing down in the curve, he was on his brakes in the curve! Idiot, he is lucky he didn't get some TLO from lifting from the gas.

The M3 chewed that A4 up and spat it out like a bad habit. Out accelerated, out handled and out drove in general.

YES, he was racing, you could see it in his eyes....LOL!

Note, this was on a very dangerous curve, that is totally walled in concrete so there was no chance of innocents being injured, no other traffic, no pedestrians. Totally "safe" run..only idiots that were in danger were me and him. Well...him.

if the audi was fwd than you outhandled him but if it was a quattro, the driver wasnt a real A4 driver. the handling an A4 quattro has is amazing (not to downgrade the bmw). i think an A4 could outhandle a bmw given they both have the same suspension setups.

I own a '03 A4 1.8T Quattro. Good race but you had that race before it started. not to burst your bubble but my car is SLOOOOOOOOOW. The quattro makes my car a super handling, drive in the rain like its dry asphalt, take corners without sliding, never go out of control unless im staring at boobies machine. But its slow as hell - stock. Even a stock 325i will destroy my car in a straight line. hehe... i need to chip it!

Oh.. also, with quattro, my A4 is over 3800 lbs and 4000 lbs with me in it. With 170 hp and 166 lbs torque, its slow as a.... stock civic.

umm sorry but the A4 can not and will not handle like a BMW let alone an E36 M3, the best handling car in the world in 1997.

i dunno about the m but my car handles better than the e46 330i and 325i. If you wanna compare an audi with the m3...compare the s4, which is supposed to handle better than the m.

trust me, an A4, S4 or any audi does not handle like an M. Do your E46's have sport package, if they do I can promise you that your audi does not handle better.....maybe you are just going by feel or what not but again, your audi does not handle like a BMW. I am not just being biast because I own a BMW, its just a fact.

i have sport suspension on the bmw and h&r/bilstein on the audi. here is the movie where they do a comparison between the m3 and s4. the m3 took the s4 of the line but the s4 took the m3 on the curves. they both handle great but i'm siding with the audi on this one.

I've seen that movie, I've also seen others and they tend to go either way....I've also read tons of magazine tests that go both ways as well....but its all subjective. Unless you actually drive both for yourself you won't know, even then most people don't drive them hard enough.

While I have not drive the new S4 I have driven the previous model, many times...however I have driven A4's from both model ranges. I can't comment on the new S4 but all other audi's i have driven handled like a boat compared to my car. I have never drove one with H&R so I wont go there, but then again thats apples to oranges.

This thread started off with CMGO, he has an E36 M3. It was rated as the best handling car in the world in 1997...again that is subjective. But I do know that I have never read anything about any audi being an exceptionally good handling car. BMW's are know for they way they drive and handle. Some people will say the E46 M3 will not handle or drive the way an E36 does, once again, subjective.

Maybe I am just biast because I drive one, but I still think and will always(until I am bested) think BMW handles better than audi. If someone thinks otherwise I offer a challenge, and I am deadly serious.

Somehow, someway we could come up with a handling competition. I will put my car up against any A4/S4 audi(stock suspension)...just to make it exciting we'll have the stakes be large, very large....thousands of dollars or pink slips.

haha i never said my lil a4 handles better than any M car. I said it handles well and i think it handles better than any 3 series EXCEPT for the m3. Im only talkin about the a4 quattro and not the front trak . I drive around the 330i and e46 325i on a daily basis (Gf's car). Ive taken my car to its limits on several palomar mtn runs in southern cali.

The M3 and any other m car are amazing machines and im not comparing my a4 to them. Ive never driven the new s4 so i have no idea on how it performs, but i have driven the e39 m5, e46 and e36 m3's. On paper, the new b6 s4 is supposed to handle better than the e46 m3...but im sure the upcoming m3 will toast the B6 S4. But on this issue i really dont care.

But to say that my A4 quattro handles like a boat...kinda implys that you've never really driven my car before. Like I said before, Im not comparing my car to any M series but the regular 3. I still think Audi is playin catch up with BMW, but dont ever race an Audi in the rain...

BTW - Cam, youre also completely ignoring Mikes opinion. The guy that actually owns BOTH cars.

Also, about you not reading about AUDI's handling exceptionally well doesnt mean anything to me. Because I pay equal attention to both brands and I read plenty about how great both companies are. Just about every car mag that tested any audi with quattro has rated it the best AWD system and a great all around handling car - in every weather condition. I never said Audi was ever BETTER than BMW, but as an AUDI owner, Im going to at least state the facts.
