1.8t Golf Kill - BMW Forum

I'd just picked up pizza for dinner today and I was getting on this long freeway on ramp where i live and hit about 90mph at the top as i do if there's nothing infront of me (i'm an unconcious speeder all the time), and right as i go to merge onto the freeway there's a grey 1.8T golf, new one, doing about the same speed. The freeways pretty empty, it was about an hour ago, 730ish on a wednesday night. I'm felt like seeing if he would go so i went around him behind him into the fast lane and took off in 4th. He followed suit and started going, pretty much keeping up with me. But when i shifted to 5th at about 100 i started to pull away and 10 seconds later i was up with traffic so i had to cross three lanes left and dart through a hole between a slow old guy and a mini van then open freeway again, he followed but i was gaining ground the whole time. After about 30 seconds if foot to the floor he's a good 10 car lengths behind me and flashes his high beams. I let off and threw my hazard warning lights on once and came off at my exit and let him catch up. i waved as he passed the off ramp on the freeway and he's the only race i've ever had where the guy's giving me a thumbs up and smiling as he goes on. It was quite a rush. Not bad for an E36 325is with K&N cold intake the only performance mod.

those 1.8t engines are slow as hell. Is it true that chips change those cars into beasts?

this teacher at my school has a Jetta with a 1.8t engine i think...auto. LOL he says his car has 450 hp and it only has a chip and exhaust. Oh and the 6 speed shift nob on his auto AHhahAHh lame

The great thing about turbo cars is chipping them almost always ups the boost. How much you can up the boost on a stock car with stock turbos and stock intercoolers comes down to the car itself...but most cars let you get at least 5 more lb stock.

it's actually a really decent engine and responds really well to mods. The bottom end is rock solid as well. I considered getting an a4 before I bought a 328is.

It's good to hear that there are still "civil racers" out there. Not that I e....er... condone any sort of dangerous behavior.

i've done much more dangerous stuff. IE me and serge "racing" each other at 120+ for a stretch of 15 mile freeway at night weaving inbetween traffic taking full advantage of the BMW lane (shoulders)
