Well, I just got my first BMW, a 2000 328Ci. It's the first car worth running at our 1/4 mile track, and my mom (of all people) challenged that her 2003 Audi A4 1.8t Quattro is quicker. I don't think I'll have a problem with it. We're both 5 speeds.
However, my sister has an '00 Eclipse GT 5speed, and she's going to come too. Anyone think I can take that? I'm going to guess no looking at the numbers.
Last but not least, how have you guys found to drive for the best time? Any recommendations on how to launch? I plan on reving to 5k or so and feathering the clutch till it grabs with DSC off. Anyone recommend just dumping it, or even reving higher? Also, how will it respong to me shifting as quickly as possible?
I wouldn't launch any higher than 2500. Launching on the track and street are very different. Each car is going to do different things. The only way to get a better time is to go to the track a lot and learn your car. Unless the eclipse has a turbo your car is faster. I'm not saying that you will win, it will come down to the driver. I have beeten a lot of cars with more HP than mine because I know my car, I know how to launch it and how to cut a good light. No one can say do this, this, and this and you will get X time, it just doesn't work that way. Unless you have a drag specific tire like a drag radial don't run your tires any lower than 24 psi, anything lower than that and you will start to loose traction. I sugest just leaving your tires alone and work on getting good 60' times and good reaction times.
yeah, nothing higher then 3200 for me. especially for new tires, it isnt necessary. plus, anything higher, you iwll just lose time burning out at the line.
shifting quicker can help, just make sure you get everything good, and if your real pro, you dont need a clutch to do that(ive never done it).

Something about draging in a BMW.... just doesnt get me off.... but its only opinion... good luck... if you lose... take it to a back road... and hand them their asses.. thats always fun...
Honestly... I've lost many straight races in my car. But I've also done circles around those that have won straight, in tight turns and fast turns. Its all about the way any car is tuned to perform. Sounds like it would be a better race on a less negotiable road.
you will beat the hell outta the eclipse...no way it should be faster...its just the GT anyway, not the GTS. As for the A4, you have a bigger engine and a small turbo like they have can only do so much. 328ci's can pin you in your seat very well...my friend has one and its awesome

I drove my brothers 328, and my cousin has an eclipse.
If you drive well, well better than your sister, you should win.
You have alot better torque curve
Luck
