Now the question shoud arise whether or not BMW should follow this rule. The way I see it is the last two digits have loosely reffered to the displacement in liters. BMW could claim it refers to the progessive line and vehicles.
My guess would be that this will not follow through and is more gibberish from Bimmer magazine.
By the way if I recall correctly they were also almost 100% sure on the e90 M3 sedan being labeled as an M4. After that was proven wrong i've lost respect for Bimmer Magazine and their ability to give solid sources.
um...so are they going back to the 70's and 80's and enforcing this? BMW and Mercedes have been doing this since the beginning of time...so i guess i have to re badge my E30 a 327es??
wrong..its a 3453cc engine...by every standard on earth that rounds up to 3.5...not down...

I'm pretty sure they will just use suffixes to establish the differences. They have done it before in Europe (e.g. 318i vs 318is -- and no, 'is' did not denote coupe in those models).

My wife figured it out in like 2 min. Now she takes great enjoyment taking pics with her cell phone of "dumb" cars she sees on the road and where she parks.
Last week she sent me a shot of a 740i ///M badged.
Yesterday I got a shot of a 318i ///M rolf. She parked next to him and asked if the ///M badge made his 318i go faster. The guy just stuttered and changed the subject to ogle my wife's (real) MRoadster.
If you're one of those who likes to put an ///M badge on your non-M please stop it! It is seriously stupid looking.
Speaking of which I walk by a parked Alpine White 325i every day with ///M badges on on it. It's a royal rust bucket too. The owner obviously doesn't know how to park as the front spoiler looks like it's hit every parking lot curb. Very sad abuse on a bimmer. Dunno what possessed him to put an ///M badge on it.

thats just retarded...this just further proves BMW had no idea what they were doing with the M30...there is no need for that many displacement variations
