The BMW M6 GT3 race car has been spied ahead of its official reveal.
During this past weekend’s Total 24 Hours of Spa race, the German automaker held a private, special event to showcase the upcoming race car. One spy photographer managed to take some photos of the heavily camouflaged race car before being escorted out, politely we’re sure, by BMW security from the pavilion.
Expected to be campaigned for the 2016 race season, the BMW M6 GT3 race car will go head-to-head with the likes of the Lamborghini Huracan and McLaren 650S.
Under the hood, expect BMW to retain the factory 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, but it’ll actually be detuned, since GT3 regulations require vehicles to have 500 hp at most. To stay competitive with the rest of the field, BMW will make sure the M6 GT3 race car tips the scales around 2,900 lbs, giving it quite the nice power-to-weight ratio.
