chat module maybe ?

http://www.sigmachat.com/

the admin of a local car-board intergrated it in the forum (a button at the top), and it works great.

it's totally free, and i think it would be fun to be able and drop in and chat with people without posting.

your opinions ? admins ?

Sounds like a good idea, and would allow us to free up some OT space because we wouldnt have to just post something random..

I think an integrated Members Only Chat would be good.

We could have different rooms also, for those who need:
Instant Tech Help
Offtopic Chat
Media Help(iehotoshop, web etc..comp help)

I think thats a great idea, and if we had different rooms for specific reasons i think itd work out awesome.

I would love to see that. Like Dan said, that would definitely free up the OT section, and could be very useful in many other ways.

Can we get this please?

You can do it for free with AIM. celica.net did it for a while, they some how reserved the room name... but there was no control over who could or couldn't be in there. Would be really cool though... perhpas there is a good non-aim free way to do it?

Torque, you get my vote in this. This chat module could be very useful sometimes.

There's a plugin that we can put onto the toolbar, but we figured it'd move the focus away from the forum, where everyone can read the questions/answers and help or be helped.

Why can't we use sigmachat? I believe it is free. Are there compatibility type of issues?

Just looks like a web based IRC client, if you really want we can start an IRC channel for the board

IRC is cool, but there's the same problems as those that torque and my self mentioned. But I guess we could password protect the IRC channel, but then the same place where you would find the channel, you would also find the password... Eitherway, I think the chat would be good/fun. Perhaps not make it for technical help, but more of a hangout/off-toppic/place-to-throw-ideas-around... Sounds good to me.
