Well... yeah, 1422 bhp is a pretty amazing number, and you should expect it to go pretty damn fast down that drag-strip, and to put it in a simple way, that's just what it does.
When Vidar Strand at VS Motor and Tommy Björk for the first time showed up with their new BMW M3, the expectations were high.
The rumors on the internet spread the word of more than 1400 horsepower, the outcome of a collaboration where Vidar tuned the engine and Tommy Tiger stood for the drag-BMW.
At the time they arrived the drag-strip they had started the engine twice, and backed it out of the garage for transport to the nearest drag-strip, that was it.
We were all sensing a little more relaxed runs down that strip than we was about to see.
The second and last attempt Vidar did down the strip that day left us paralyzed...
The man who said he should take it easy that day, and test the car, had just did a quartermile in 8.42 seconds @ 251 km/h!!
Yet, the next weekend he did another attempt at that same strip, but this time he was a little more confident about driving the car, and drove a 8.08 @ 272 km/t.
The time achieved made the car a world-record holder as the fastest BMW on earth!
Yes, the extensive work with the engine during this winter VS Motor had payed off, and they succeeded to push out these enormous amounts of power from the 3.7 liter BMW 6-cylindered engine, a lot thanks to two enormous Turbonetics T-66 turbos.
The rest of the specification list is long as a bad year, and many of the parts had to be custom built to achieve these type of numbers.
Just the look of this car tells you that these guys mean serious business.
Oversized tires for maximum grip, side-pipes right from the engine and the parachute for braking down from speeds about 270 km/h.
You don't get the sense of imaginary brutality by looking at it though, with this car it's only about functionality and how to increase the aerodynamics.
The car is painted orange to make it "stand out" from the crowd.
The striving after a 7 second run has become a legitimate issue for Vidar and Tommy, and it wouldn't surprise me if we get to see this within short time.
So both for the future and for Vidar's runs down that strip, time will tell...
Well, this is made purely for dragracing (pretty obvious) and can only run on race fuel. It hasn't been run with NOS yet, neither during a drag or on the dyno. Would like to see the numbers with NOS too.
Pictures at the website linked too by the way.
Hoping for a high 7-second run this weekend. Time will tell!
