So as a few of you know my buddy just bought a '04 325CI last weekend. So we were riding in it and he asked me what that red bulb on the underside of the rearview mirror is. I said I wasn't 100% sure but I think it is for the auto lights. So when you go into low light areas the headlights come on. Am I anywhere close or is it something else?

I think it is the sensor for headlights behind you, so the mirror knows when to auto-dim...

Ya my buddy said it was flashing when he had it parked. So it must be the alarm. I will try rotating it see if his has that feature.

Wouldn't it be easier to get a whole new mirror than trying to take that off? the whole interior looks great then you have this big red "nose" right there. Fire who ever came up with that one.

LongHairedHippy: Just let him die out. The odds are on that he won't reproduce, so the problem will take care of itself

No, that is only available in the e65/e66.

The right button on the steering wheel if I'm correct.

If you press both buttons at the same time, that's when the NOS comes out. :

Went over to my buddys house and check it out again. Ya it's just the led for the alarm. It doesn't rotate, but the mirror has it's own sensor built in that dims the mirror. It's just a black dot on the rearview mirror that does the dimming. Do you guys know why the lights readjust every time you start the car. His has the corner feature, the headlights follow the curve in the road when you turn the car.
