For the "Best New Engine," "Best New Engine" and "Best Above 4.0-liter" awards, the Bavarian V10 edged out Ferrari's new 4.3-liter V8 as used in the Ferrari F430 Berlinetta and Spider.
Cool. That's just one website, though.
It is pretty damn awesome, though. Just think of all those Fox body Mustangs "5.0" V8s.... and along come BMW with a 5.0 that blows it out of the freakin water. Yess!!

yeah basically we fucking own all when it comes to engines, bmw has the most engine of the year awards than any other company, honda comes in second i believe, but who wants to see how much power you can get out of a soda bottle, and then wrap a crappy car around it lol

Good analogy... although I DO want to see how much power comes out of a soda bottle... I think it's funny. It is highly amusing to me. I mean, if you could get, say, a .25 liter engine with 400hp, I would find that highly amusing.
Anybody ever see that article in "Sport Compact Car" about the Hyabusa V8 they were building in England? Now THAT engine was badass. 2.6 Liters, and I think they were pushing over 300 hp at RPM's north of 10K?!
Now, that's something that needs to see production.

300 HP from a 2.6 L engine is not THAT impressive. The champ cars are pushing over 800 HP from around a 2L engine.
Even BMW back in the day used to take used 2002 4 cyl block and pump them up to 1200 HP for Formula 1 qualifying sessions. Then they would rebuild for the race and be running about 800

It's made by Radical's engine division, Powertec. It's used in the Radical SR8. The block is all original and one of the heads is modified to allow it to be used in a V configuration (both heads need to have the intake on the inside of the V and the exhaust on the outside of the V, so one head has to be modified to be fitted backwards and have the timing chain put on the other side of the head) The engine, dubbed RPA V8 for Radical Performance Series A, is 2.6L and puts out a very impressive 383bhp and 207lbs of torque while weighing only 194 pounds. The engine revs to 10,500RPM.
Full specs:
Engine Specification
72° V8 cylinder, 32 valve quadcam
Steel flat-plane crankshaft
Twin counter-rotating balance shafts
Twin pump lubrication system
Four scavenge pump dry sump system
Rotary vane coolant pump
Pre-engage starter motor

Power: 360bhp
Maximum Power: 383bhp (with eight butterfly induction system)
Maximum torque: 207 ft lbs
Maximum revs: 10,500rpm
Bore: 81mm
Stroke: 63mm
Compression ratio: 11.0:1

It gets better than that. That's probably the most advanced road engine out there now... it's a 500hp, ~380 lbs. torque v10 that hits its highs at ~7800 (I think) and ~6500, respectively. The thing is capable of upper 8000 rpm revs... much like a very LARGE version of the vaunted S2000's i4.
My friend, you DO need an update. See the thread Furious put up about the ///m5 vs. the Ferrari F430. You won't be disappointed.
