Hi,

I am new to this forum which I have quite impressed with wealth of info.
I just bought my first Bimmer.
This baby is 1994 325i with one owner and 118k miles on it. I got it for a good price knowing that it requires some work.

The car was shaking with a load tires noise in the back . The car also shakes which I attributed to the fact the rear tires are completly worn out and you can actually see the metal mesh of the tires. The front tires had 5/32 still on it. The car had on top of all that squeaks coming mostly from the rear. The owner told me that the car needs new struts/Shocks along with tires.

I started first with replacing the two worn out tires with new one and put them in the front and moved the old front s to the rear and balanced all of the them. That took care of the steering wheel and car shaking on highway speed. Now I am left with squeaking and I think I also need an alignment. I have noticed also the driving on the highway the car seem to move up and dawn as if it was floating. I don't feel it is absorbing any bumps or road imperfections.

I checked the control arm and I dont see anything loose.

Are these the "symptoms" of of worn out struts and shocks?

Is there anything else that could do that ?

the floating sounds like it could be the struts/shocks, even/also the springs too. if u push down on each corner as if u were trying to bounce the car, when u let go, the car should stop bouncing within one bounce. next try the same with the whole front/rear by pushing in the center.

replace if nessicary.

if u are not sure have a mechanic check it, they should do it free. good luck w/your car!

Seeing how dunking your car in a large vat of oil is impractical, our next suggestion would be to have your car inspected on a "rack" that you drive onto that lifts the wheels, not the frame. (This style of lift or rack can usually be found in a service center that does muffler replacements.) This will allow you to move or "work" the suspension while safely checking for the location of the noise. Look at the pivot points of the suspension. They have rubber bushings that can fail.

Thanks for your suggestions.
I tried to push the car down in each corner and the car did alittel more that one bounce. in the rear mostly more than the front. Also I was lowering the car after I had lifted the right front side to change the oil and as a I was lowering the car slowly and LOT of squeaking came from the right rear shocks.
I will take to a shop to be cheked out and keep you updated.
