| I auto-x'd my 95 318i on sunday. It was awesome. One of my dad's friends who goes to SCCA Solo2 nationals and usually places rode with me for most of the runs. The course was fairly highspeed for an Auto-x course, which didn't help me much being in a 318. At the fastest part of the course right before a 90 degree right hander I topped got up to 6k rpms in 2nd gear, so almost 60 mph. I only got 3 timed runs because there were safety issuses in the course so we got started late. And then right before my 1st run on a 2 lap course the car before me spewed oil all over the place. But I was already at the line so they told me to go ahead and that they wouldn't count this for a timed run and I would get another one later. The course didn't seem that slick because I was on street tires. But then they had to change the middle part of the course... again... It took so long that they threw out any points for the event because there wasn't enough time to run everybody on the new course. So for the next 2 runs I got a 73 second and a 71 second total time. I didn't see many of the times, but there was a older driver, he hs experiance in auto-x and SCCA Rally competitions, in a Mini cooper (non-s) had a fastest time of 68 seconds. We were both running in H-stock, so for my second auto-x, the first in my BMW and the first with RWD I think I did pretty good. Then they opened the course for "fun" or "Instructional" ruins. My dads friend rode with me again and on the fast part of the course there was a sweeping right turn not too sharp. I had been going to abou 1/2 to 3/4 throttle on it, but this time he yelled for me to keep it floored, so I did. The back end started to slide, I stayed on the gas and held the wheel I took out 3 of the inside cones at the exit of the corner, and drug 2 of them through the rest of the course and had to dig one of them out from underneath my car... it ripped out my out side air sensor. but i was able to put it back, but need to replace the air duct that it goes into. All in all great fun. I had no Idea that the limit for my car was soooooo high. He was always yelling "go go go!!!!" I thought he was crazy at first but did it any way and it worked great!!! I'm definately hooked, I don't care that I have about an inch of brake dust on my wheels, or that I prolly took 15% of my tire tread... |
