Question SRS Airbag; Instrument cluster issues

Hi Folks,
My 03 Zed4 has about 48.5k miles and is out of warranty since the beginning of this year. The car has been great since i bought it and the minor glitches have been resolved under warranty.

Over the weekend I was going towards Williams from 80 East and halfway through that 35 mile stretch i overtook a truck & promptly returned to the right lane following normal civilian procedures.
As I completed the lane switch i switched off my indicator and all hell broke loose. The indicator panel started behaving erratically, the blinker would not turn off and the SRS Airbag light came on. From then onwards the windows, power top , blinkers, wiper and the entire instrument cluster stopped working. I started to return about an hour later & the engine started hesitating when i would downshift and slow down. About a couple of miles later the SES 'Service Engine Soon' light came on and i think i have quite a bit of a problem.

I reasearched and found quite a bit of issues reported in this forum. This is my third BMW and my 02 3'er coupe had simliar niggling issues with the SRS light; i ended up trading it in for the Zed. My 97 328i had some other electrical issues although not as severe as this.

Is it possible to buy the Peake SRS reset to diagnose the issue before taking it to the dealer and should i go for a Extended Warranty. I was offered the EW option back in April but passed on it..but thinking about it now, the investment would have perhaps been worth it.

Anyone had any experience on their 3 series especially OoW and how much it took the dealer to fix it..

Happy Motoring & Thanks in advance.
