Vent time...I often drive to campus rather than walk or take the bus because I have to go to work right before or after class or I have a meeting or something...anyway, every time I've been on campus with my car, people have been assholes. Quite often when I drive around with the windows down, or when I'm getting in or out of the car, some guy within earshot says something like "Oooo, I got a BMW, I'm special," "Check the fag in his beamer," or, today, "Wow, thanks dad!"
I think the last one pisses me off the most. I don't care what else they say; I bought this car because I love it, not to make other people to think I'm a better person, or elevate my "social status", or any bullsh!t like that, and if they want to think that's why I bought it, fine, screw 'em. But I bought it, it wasn't handed to me by my father (like I'd say 90% of the nice cars around here are--one guy's dad just bought him an M3, another has a new Porsche, and those are just the ones I know of), so it pisses me off when someone says something like that, because I work and I saved and I bought this myself. Making it additionally ironic and hypocritical is that I bet that dude's (or at least some of these people's) parents are paying for his college tuition and board (which my parents aren't), but no one will hear me bitching about his free education even though he's under the mistaken impression that I got my car for free. I'm not bitter about that or anything--that's cool that parents will pay for their kids schooling, as I hope to one day, although I don't agree with parents that hand their kids $50,000 cars...but even when they do, I'm not a dick about it and say mean things when they drive by. PLUS, it's not like there's any shortage of nice cars around here -- although 5-series are rare (I've seen only one other E39), it seems that everybody and their brother has a 3-er or an A4--there's quite literally hundreds of those on campus--so I don't see why they're compelled to open their mouths to me. I'm already at the point where I don't want to drive my car on campus, but I don't have another to use.
Anyway, I just needed to vent, and pose the (probably rhetorical) question: what the hell is with some people???
Anyone who ever buys used cars online, anyone even THINKING of starting a "Is this deal too good to be true?" thread, anyone who wants to be more educated about protecting themselves must read this.
