I was wondering what nitrous does, and if it is harmful. Is it always on? I have a 1997 BMW 3 series chipped with exaust and am thinking of installing nitrous. Can anyone tell me about it?
its an oxidizer if im not mistaken...and if you want to run it get a wet system i dont know much about it because i would never consider doing that to my car.

I have "heard" that a light shot, like 40-75 hp, is good for your car, it cleans out the fuel system. I have no proof of this, just by word of mouth. Nitrous is not more flameable, it just expands more when ignited, if I am not mistaken.

Only two things matter in life, The Bema, and The Bimmer.
I would go in the fuel injection and sport camshaft direction instead. That solution has proven to add power and still leaving the engine in running condition.
But it would interesting with some experineces - anyone?
1. NOS is not a fuel, fruity is right, it's an oxidizer.
2. Dry systems are bad
3. Don't go for a system that gains more than 50HP without a built motor
4. NOS will make your engine internals corrode VERY QUICKLY, you will get aluminum oxalate or rust corrosion on all engine internals and it will build up very quickly. NOS is very bad for your motor.
5. NOS is also hell on your catalytic converter...
6. If you didn't already get what I was saying... DON'T USE NOS.

heh...i knew it...i saw a motor once we opened it up it was a drag racers motor...all the pistons and combustion chambers were rusted and corroded and one piston had been eaten thru and a valve was eaten apart and was sitting inside the half eaten piston...

Nice break down Trigg. The only thing I would change - NOS is a brand, N20 (Dinitrogen monoxide) is nitrous.
