This must be a scam- 2004 325 for $5k?

This guy has posted a 2004 325Ci for $5,000 on Autotrader (link below). I've exchanged a few emails with him and he says I need to use "Autotrader's payment service". He has provided a VIN# of WBABD33484PL02045.

The seller is listed as being in Bluffton, SC, he has since emailed and said the car is in Florida, and the phone # provided has an area code in Los Angeles.

Yes, this is no doubt a scam, since he seems very interested in selling this car for approx $20K under book value. But how does it work? Has anyone else had any experiences with these kinds of deals?

I like to learn how the scam artists operate so I can be prepared in the future. If anyone can run a Carfax on that VIN I would be curious to know what that says.

Here's the link to the ad:

Thanks,

Casey

Hey, if you're not interested in that one, i've got an e30 M3 for sale, all i want is 2k. Just playing, man. I have had an experience with scammers, but i was the one selling the car. Nasty little buggers they are.
