i need to learn how to drive a bmw that is automatic and manual, so how do i do that????[

I know nothing about cars... but i think that using that function screws up your auto transmission

thats what it is there for, my mom had a automatic '93 535i and i remember her showing me when i was young what that did, cause i always asked for that switch was for
