Hi,
There are several different types of BMW's, and at the end of a few numbers there is an "ic" "ci" "xi" "is" "i"...u get the idea. But what exactly do these letter mean? Second question; I am looking for a used BMW with 80k miles or less on it from a price range up to 15,000$. If i am going to spend my money that i work for on a BMW i want the right one (as i hope most would). I want a car with a vertically opposed or incline 6 cylinder engine, drives well , thats able to become a street rally car, and has many choices when it comes to customization and or aftermarket parts, Turbo compatibility, and a good interior setup, preferably a coupe, front rear or all wheel drive is dependent on how long the car will last b/c this investment needs to be the right one. secondly to my second point! i have heard that there is a "manumatic" transmisison setup, i dont want this, but i do want something along the same lines. Bear with me here, imagine a manual drive car, that can be an automatic, WITHOUT the straight column shifting function. okay so once more, it is like any other manual car with 5 speeds and shifts left right foward and back, that can be changed w/ a push of a button to an automatic transmission. Does this exist or not?
The SMG(Sequential Manual Gearbox) shifts up or down with a paddle on the steering wheel when in manual mode, and like an automatic when in manual mode, but I don't think it's available on anything but the e46 m3(someone correct me if i'm wrong) and you aren't going to get one of those for under 35k I don't think. That tranny has also been criticized for being fairly crude for an automatic.

the i originally meant fuel injection back in the days of my bmw, but since all cars are fuel injected and they dont use carbs anymore its a kinda useless naming
i wouldnt mind driving a manual i just think it would b convenient. also, if i am going to spend the money, im going to go all out and do this thing the right way (how i want it) for my second point, i dont know what kind of bimmer i want to get. I like the body styles of the 95-99 3 series models. 5 series are more expensive, and more costly w/ insurance (at least in ohio). the 2000 and newer body styling for those bimmers are just as appealing, but theyre becoming a more curved and blended look and im a fan of the boxy shaping w/ a decent amount of tasteful curveature. im not really sure what the diff is between a 323 318 328 etc...and this is where i need some

Its prefered to go a supercharger over a turbo on bimmers. but turbos and BOV's sound way cooler
325xi
3 series
25 = 2.5 liter inline 6 engine
xi = awd (only e46)
ci = coupe (only e46)
is = coupe/sport (only e36)
i = i dunno i think its inline but that wudn't make sense on like 545i which is v8
d = diesel
BMW white/blue sign = twirling propellers to signify the original purpose of company to make airplane engines
BMW = ownage

325iA- A can be added to the end of the name to indicate the car is AUTOMATIC (never is on the trunk badge)
The SMG for Z4 is suppose to suck hard core, according to the Bimmer and Road and Track Mag, but I drove a Z4(Im sure most of you have heard the story by me). And it just fuckin rules....so damn fast, and the interior sound with the top down makes the exhaust sound SOOOOOOO GOOOD OMG! just puttin the pedal down a little more makes it just like "ohhhhhh", and it just goes, the 3.0 is really amazing.
