If u had to choose between a new BMW 545i Mercedes e55 or a porsche carrera which would u choose (all auto. no choice a woman is driving )? In terms of both comfort and performance... I've ridden in a couple of Porsches and the ride quality was terrible on the über-stiff suspension, the cockpit also felt kinda cramped....but u still gotta love the Porsche name... Never been in a new 545i but have heard pretty good things about, love the styling of the car overall. The e55 prop my favorite, "fastest production sedan ever made" is all i have to say about that car ... (except that it was decently comfy inside.) Any personal experiences/reccomendations? Post away!

All AUTO? You won't get the true benefit of a 545i with an automatic, and the Carrera crowd will just plain laugh at you. Get the Benz - you like it the best and you seem like the type anyway.

You need to drive the 545 before making a decision. With Active Steering, nothing compares to it (for a sedan). Even with auto.

Stay away from the benz. They are a pain in the ass to work on it and mechanics will charge you for it. If its a woman get her the 5 seris. She'll love it and she will still have room to bring food home. What use does she have for a stick? My friend/mechanic just got his wife an E34 535i it's auto and she loves it. She had been driving a Volvo 940 Turbo and a E30 BMW 323i and this is the car that she chose. Hope it helps.

E55 AMG is probabily the best auto in the list.....Mercs make the best auto trannys period. And I really doubt maintainence costs are a concern...if they were the buyer wouldn't be looking at porsches. The E55 AMG is really more of a competitor for the future or E39 M5 than the 545i. The E500 is more of an even matchup

so she has driven a stick before? That means she at least knows the theory. It's like riding a bike. She would re-learn it easily.

unless the stick she learnt on still hasn't gotten over the beating...

there is "learning", then there is actually knowing and correctly applying after having learnt.

though some people couldn't be bothered with it...

I would not recommend buying an auto porsche...not too familiar with the benz...might be nice. The e39 545 is really a nice ride even if you have it auto..your wife'll dig it I'm sure.
