Engine Swap?

Sorry if this question has been asked or answered anywhere on this site but I need to be sure. I have a very good 325 (out of a 1992) and I am wondering if I could drop it into a 318 (1992). Could someone tell me if the engine mounts are the same and how much work would be involved, or would it be a pretty straight forward procedure. Has anyone done something like this and could help me out? Any help on this would be great. Thanks

Allow me to clarify. I meant I have a 1992 325 engine, and want to drop it into a 1992 (or similar) 318. Cheers.

I highly doubt that the mounts are the same considering the 1.8L is a four and teh 2.5 is a six. It will fit in the car since the chassis is the same, but I can't say how much work it will be. Do you have the whole drivetrain (engine and transmission)? If so, it might be easier than trying to match up the six to the four's tranny. Hopefully someone else can help with this question.

Mods should move this to the E30 section so that it will get more views from the propper people.

as far as i know you will have to:
get new mounts installed/fitted/expensive
get new suspension
new tranny/diff
new tranny/diff mounts (maybe)
new wiring and harness and all that crap in the bay

its a lot of money... save your money and get a 1995 bmw m3 with under 90,000 miles or a 328 with around under 60,000 miles

The diff mounts are different. You have to get the rear subframe from a 6cly BMW. Cut out your rear subframe and weld in the 6cly model. It really is almost cheaper to buy a 6cly BMW unless you are going to do the work yourself.

In all honesty, every (well, both) engine swaps I've tried turned into a huge pain. I tried changing out my supra's engine with another supra's engine that was turbocharged, and even that proved to be extremley hard. I'm sure if you took it to the right people, they'd have no problem doing it, for the right price. If you decide to do it, good luck!
