Personally, I only like the coupes for the E46's. I LOVE 330ci's, sooo hot. In turn, the E46 M3 is a real piece of art. But I also love the E36's, again, only the coupes. I dont know why, but to me the 3 series never looked good in 4 doors or covertible. What do you guys think?

The only E36 I'd even own from this point, would be a Euro M3....I almost bought one instead of my current car...the E46's interior is FAR superior to the E36, the chassis is much better on a E46, and the e46's have the looks...

its because 4 doors should be limited to GM and limosines...

e36 - the wiser, yet fatter, older, and harder e30
e46 - the old bum you find on the street who has lots of money and is drunk

hmm, i wouldnt say the E36 is wiser and fatter than the E30. its more refined, and a bigger success for bmw, and made the 3 series the deffinitave sports sedan. but bmw put more concern on marketing the E36 M3 rather than the raw sportyness of the E30 M. not that thats a bad thing, it just started a new direction and target for the 3 series buyers.
the E46 is even more refined, more toned down, more rounded, and is made to compete with mercedes classy executive like sport sedan/coupe imo. but bmw more than made up for it with the E46 M3 which maintained the legendary I-6 rather than forced induction and is considered to be a raw performer, with the advantage of the aggresive M-styling on the E46 design.

its impossible to say which 3 series generation is the best, but generally younger buyers go for the E36 cuz it seems to be a bmw at its best with classic styling, older buyers go for the more refined E46, and enthusiasts go for the E30's (or older) cuz of its strong motorsport history and nostalgic bmw tradition.

just my opinions B)

in what respect is the E46 more refined? Just because its sleeker, grealty improved interior and some other things.....The E46 handles better, accelerates better (due to the larger engines)...the part that matters about a BMW, the E46 is more aggressive in. E36s are getting old now (the newest e36 would be 4 years old) and for reliability/pimp factor a E46 is the way to go....Personaly, id never buy a used car that the model i was buying wasnt made anymore/change and updated.

I think one reason e30s dont handle as good as they should are those pos wheels they stick on them. 195 and 14 inch with 65% tire wall. Newer Bm's have the advantage of already coming with low profile tires and huge widths compared for other stock cars on the market.

The E46 handles better
Says who? you?

Actually the E36 handles better, its lighter, has better steering response...etc etc etc.. Most of ///M ethusiasts prefer the handling of the E36 much much better then the E46. And I am talking about the ethusiasts, not just the owners.

You can argue all day about which is better but no one will ever win, it comes down to opinion or preference. Different people like different things.

Here are some reason why I choose to go with an E36.

Lighter
Handles Better
Steering response
Mod factor - i.e. more mods, easier to mod, cheaper, etc etc etc.
Cheaper
looks
Funner to drive IMO

I think the E46 is a great looking car and I agree the interior is nicer and I wouldn't mind owning one, I just personally like the E36 better. I don't know, maybe I am just biased.

However, I think the E46 M3 is a fat pig(3400-3500 is to heavy for a M3) and the steering is to soft. Sure its faster and more powerful but give me $3000 in mods in a E36 M3 and they are pretty much the same, give me forced induction and the E46 M3 will get walked big time.

IMO the E36 M3 is much more car for the money, now you can agree or disagree but that is my opinion and you won't change that.

Well isnt the E46 M3 almost maxed out on its power? That's why people havent done force induction right? That's what I thought.

yes that is true, the motor is pretty strung out. However some people are doing f/i, I am interested to see how reliable that is. I wouldn't think the car would last to many laps on a track.
