Dashboard fashion

Why did BMW choose red (well almost orange) as dashboard color? The standard is more red hands with green background on most cars. The nuance is OK but it gives almost a porn club feeling.

Audi has an even more reddish light, very red. Any warning light gets lost in that red light.

Then on the newer WV cars the dash board has very blue text with very red hands. Too harsh to the eyes in my opinion.

What color sceme do you think is the best?

Maybe in the future we will have skins on the dashboard just like your desktop on your PC.

thats not a bad idea. i think bmw chose amber cause its easy on the eyes or something like that, although when you turn the dash lights all the way up it can look a little dillusional at night

i like the amber scheme most.

I think the ones on the VWs are nice, but cuase too much fatigue during long nite trips.

Being in a job where nightvision is pretty important, I like the color scheme. It's not so red that I have to turn the intesity way up to make out the info and it's definately better than blue or green. I don't end up blinding myself everytime I look at the speedometer (except that since my head appears to be at about the same height as everyone elses headlights I get to drive around blind anyway so I suppose it doesn't matter).
I don't think it's a critical item here so I suppose other colors would be ok if that's your preference I just find this to be an excellent color for nighttime use (from a purely utilitarian viewpoint).
