il explain a little more. im working on a 77 triumph spitfire. it has a webber double barrel downdraft carb. the air filter is custom made to fit on the new carb, i want to put in a standardized filter so i was thinkg about simply moving the air intake, the only way i know to do that is do it like a cold air intake kit. but iv never heard of a cold air intake on a carborated engine. only on injected engines. make any sense?

CAI is to pull air into the throttle body, which carb engines dont have. you can put a scoop on the hood to force more air into the carb, but thats about it

its not a matter of power, its a matter of room. the car is small to begin with. it has a MG motor in it and a differant carb than its made for there just isnt enough clearance for a standard size filter. so i was wondering if i could just move the intake , but i quess not. thanks guys

cut a hole in the hood and have the carb stick out a cm or two. Then get one of those fiberglass mold on scoops. Paint the ouside to match the car and paint the inside black. Paint the carb and filter black and the area of the hood being covered
. It will look good.

if not put a scoop you could always do what i saw some stupid ass kid do in rockville, looked like he sawzawed the hood and had an intake sticking out of the top. J/p i think that was the most hidious BMW ive ever seen.
ya im gunna avoid cutting anything. hopefully i can figure something else out, thanks guys, now i just gotta wait for this rain to quit
