So yesterday I decide that today I would change my oil and spark plugs. I tell my mom this and asked if she could give me a little money, she says sure. So this morning I wake up and my car is gone along with my key right off of my keychain. I call my mom and she tells me that my car is being worked on and they said that they are changing the oil spark plugs, checking ignition wiring ... etc.

She didn't trust that I could do it myself. How am I supposed to learn?

next time just do it.
just because mom can't and doesn't understand the process doesn't mean you can't.

maybe have her watch or something. then she will see that you can.

Some people believe in having service records... and they waste money on everything.

Yeah, exactly. I think all she cars about is that the car is maintained by a certified bmw guy and has up to date service records. Thing is, it's my car!!! However she is paying for this service and filling the car up with gas. So I guess I can't complain too much.

Yeah...I guess you can't. Nice mom

Anyone who ever buys used cars online, anyone even THINKING of starting a "Is this deal too good to be true?" thread, anyone who wants to be more educated about protecting themselves must read this.

Next time don't tell her you are about to do it. Just get up in the morning and do it.

She'll be pissed, but that will pass.

Oh man that's harsh....

I once took a car in to get new tires and they had teh nerve to touch my oil pan. Like they had any idea that my engine at the time ran most efficiently not with the factory preset 4.5 quarts of oil, but with 3.75 quarts. And the idea of replacing the oil pug with an air ratchet wouldn't cross my mind from now til doomsday!

Then they had the balls to try and charge me for it!

The things mechanics do when you don't watch them closely.

I understand your desire to do your own work.

On th eother hand...free gas is free gas!

Yea, free gas is definatly free gas. Considering I think the lowest I saw here is 1.96 for regular. She is however allowing me touch-up paint the car myself cause she's going away for 2 weeks. So 2 weeks of freedom with my car and a decent amount of money ... time for some mods.
