Question - I'm looking to get an exhaust upgrade, bolt on of course. Are the bolt ons truly 'bolt on', or is there more involved? I'm questioning if I should take the exhaust to a mechanic to put on, or do it myself. Assuming I have the tools and the time I should be able to jack the car, remove the old system, install the new system and drive away. Is ther any welding invovled, or other such nonsense?

they really are bolt on. Of course you still have to hang the muffler and all that too, and some of the bolts are hard to get to, especially if you've got little girl fingers, or big friggin shaq hands.

there are many types of bolt ons. There are "bolt on" air filters which require the removal of the airbox and 3 screws. Then there are "bolt on" headers which require the removal of the driveshaft, cat back about a hundred bolts. Bolt on just means no readjustment in any timing or ECU required really. But the exhaust should be an easy one as long as you have at least 1 (2 recommended) friends and a nice car jack.

Cool, thanks Trigg. I wans't so sure, especially after watching HorsePower TV (piss off, I was bored ok?!?!!?) and watching the guys install a bolt on cat back system on a Mustang - "Just undo these bolts, hang your aftermarket exhaust on the stock hangers, and spot weld this connection .." I was like WTF? Spot weld a bolt on application? Where in the term 'bolt on' does it imply 'spot weld'?
As for hands, my left hand is 12 year old girl-like, but my right is very Shaq-esque. So I may some trouble but I'll just beat myself about the head and neck and get it done.
Fox - Thanks, I figured there would be a plethora of bolts, nuts, screws, dried poo, and other whatnots but I was worried that there would be welding, cutting, masturbating, involved to get the thing on correctly. I'm figuring a good long week end with a few friends and some brews should be enough.

But do they fit in my budget (keep in mind I'm replacing the O2 sensors as well)? I'm not so worried about sound, mostly bang-for-the-buck, and something I won't have to replace in a few years.
