one of my 330's has been sputtering lately so i took it into bmw. they call me a couple of days back telling me bmw came out themself to look at it and that the motor is blown, dead, gone, and not under warranty....because it was "over revved." I drive my car conservatively (at least my 330s). they told me that it was cylinder two. i believe is a manufacturers defect...if it were to do what they say...shouldnt cylinder 2-4-6 be effected as welll????? i called them back to confront the situation and told them about that 3cyl would be effected and only then did they say, "yea 2-4-6 was bad, but two was the worst." they said it was probably because it was downshifted and over revved...which i don't do and even if i did it would take quite a few times to do some damage. the car has about 35k miles on it....what do you guys think about this? they want 11k + install. i told them my lawyer will be contacting them.
Hrmm... personally i think that this sounds like a case of abused run-in time. However it would only be 2 cylinders because fire at a time. I forget the firing order on the new ones though. As ex-tech will tell you they have a rev-cap memory that tells what the max RPM has been. At least thats if i remember correctly.

I dont know, bmw is usually very good to help customers as much as they can. I mean I have a 16 year old 325 with 130k miles on it and they replaced my headbolts for free, all i had to do was buy the bolts.
It just sounds like you didnt properly run-in the car for the first 2000 miles. Like not going over 3k and not accelerating quickly. All that stuff really does count. Thats why theres countless number of m3s with blown engines. People dont run them in and warm them up.

CALL BMW OF NORTH AMERICA AND TELL THEM YOUR SITUATION. WHEN I FIRST GOTTEN MY NEW 530 2 YEARS AGO.. I NOTICED THE SPARE RIM WAS BADLY SCRATCHED, AND THE DEALER HAD THE NERVER TO SAY I DID IT AND WOULDNT REPLACE IT. I CALLED BMW OF NA COMPALINED. NEXT DAY FREE RIM AND TIRE. B) GOOD LUCK
My dad had a problem with his boxter and the service he was getting at his dealership. It had developed an oil leak, but the dealer did not know why. After two trips to fix it and still no result, he called the main porsche center. It turned out that the dealer had been using the wrong tool to put the engine back together after changing the oil. For those of you who don't know, if your porsche has to go into the shop 3 times for the same problem because the dealer failed to fix it, porsche gives you a brand new one.

my dads porsche 993 had an oil leak in the head and they had to rebuild the head on it.. yea that sucked.. sorry for jacking your thread brotha.. .call bmw headquarters and see what the results are...
the bmw dealer around me sucks ass (Marty Sussman) they cheat and lie to me. I was ther and asked how much it would cost for an oil change, hesaid it was $65, and before i brought it in, they quoted $170. They are assholes.
We brought my friends car there to replace the oxygen sensors. After he got it back, it started knocking and sounding like shit. We brought it back the next morning and guess what? THOSE FUCKERS BLAMED IT ON US. So they said that it was a VANOS problem, and that they had to order a SHOP TOOL from Germany. They also mentioned that we were going to have to pay for the repairs. Before the part got in, they realized that they forgot to reconnect a ground wire. They threw in a free set of spark plugs and sent us on our way. I am never going there again.
also, wehen we initially drove the car over, we brought it into the shop and there is a staging area where the car sits before it goes into a service bay. They said they were going to do the diagnostics and tell us whats wrong. My frineds mom called and asked how the car was coming, and he said its getting checked right now. Little did that asshole know, we were in another part of the dealership waiting for her to pick us up. She called us and told us that the car was being worked on. We walked out to the service area and the car was STILL THERE!!! IT DIDNT MOVE AT ALL. I almost broke that guys face in.
If the engine was over reved you would know it. Tell them you want to see the print out. They should replace the engine regardless. If they continue to be shit heads make an appointment to see the manager and don't tell them you are bringing your attorney with you. That will let them know you are serious and they need to take care of it. It just should not be this hard.
