BMW is putting a Biturbo on the 3L engines. Next year the 3-series 330 will be equiped with a biturbo which increases the HP rate from 258 HP to an incredible 330 HP!! The new M3 gets a V8 with ~400 HP.
I've read this in my weekly car magazine.

Face it, BMW MUST sell out, or else in the end they too will ...
Hell, they shouldn't. There are so many people out ther in bmw's who don't know what they're driving, and we need to become more exclusive anyway.
Too bad that's not how economics works.
Sell out? I would like to ask you all 2 simple questions. Which car company was the first to put out a production turbo charged car from the factory? What Car was it and what year?
Then I think you will see that BMW isn't selling out.

Well since somebody asked... and the only 2002 guy we have doesn't seem to be around...
The answer is: the BMW 2002 Turbo. The first production car with a turbo... I believe it was 1972 give or take two years... So there we have it. BMW was the first...

it was first raced in 69, made public available in 73.
Honestly... why would you guys hate turbos? I mean its kinda cool that BMW does have the best N/A engines... but... turbos are awesome too... how is that selling out? I just don't understand... used
I knew about the 2002; And I'm sure a lot of people here know about it as well. What I mean by sell out is that they are essentially following the mass of other car companies that are turboing, supercharging, and otherwise modifying lesser engines for more oomph. Yes, bmw made the 2002 turbo. Yes, BMW even continued making turbo diesels across the world (just not the US). But they also made some real efficient N/A engines. There's another thread around here somewhere about this topic, and I've stated my views on forced induction. To sum it up, there's nothing really wrong with it, it's more of an opinion based thing. But isn't it much easier to put effort in the turbo than effort in perfecting an engine? Granted, you could do both, and I'm sure BMW will do this right (although all reports show the twin turbo to give really slow 0-60 times for such high amounts of hp - maybe this has something to do with weight). As an purist, I admit that it's hard to see something as perfect as the I6 go in favor of a v8, or the I6 NA go in favor of an I6 t/c or s/c. I for one would think that BMW is doing this more to stem the tide of t/c and s/c cars out there trying to usurp the 3-series from it's lofty perch. And that is selling out. Joining the crowd to beat it.
