FRANKFURT -- Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, the No. 2 maker of luxury cars, said sales in September of BMW and Mini- brand vehicles increased 6.3 percent, helped by the new 5-Series model. Full-year BMW-brand sales may reach a record.
The German carmaker sold 102,600 vehicles last month, the Munich-based company said in a faxed statement. Sales in the first nine months gained 1.2 percent from the year-ago period to 815,240 units. BMW-brand nine-month sales fell 3.3 percent to 678,110 vehicles.
BMW is introducing new models to boost demand and increase sales. The company started selling the new 5-Series in July and has sold 24,060 of the luxury car since then.
"The positive sales trend of the third quarter confirms our 2003 estimation that a new sales record is also achievable for the BMW brand," said board member Michael Ganal in the statement.
