Keep it or Sell/Trade it in?

I have a Silver 98 328i 5speed with 50K miles.

The car is in excellent condition.

After owning the car almost 4 years I am starting to get bored with it.

I am not sure wheter I should just trade the car in for a new or a late model
used car with a 20,000 value. or just keep it and Mod it(Exhaust, CAI, Chip, 17'' wheels.)

I recently bought an 04 350Z and started modding it. That car is for week-end fun and the BMW is my Mon-Fri everyday car.

What would you do?
Get something else or keep the BMW 328i and Mod it ?

i would either bump up to an m3 or have some real fun by modding it. DIY is half the fun of owning a car anyways

why not just use the 350z for your everyday car, sell the bimmer, and buy a boat or something

The Z is great. I love it. I know lots of Z owners who do drive it daily. but it is really not pratical for everyday driving, no rear seats, hardly any Trunk space. Terrible MPG. I usually just Drive it for pleasure cruises and monthy canyon drives here in Cali.

I use to think the 328i was fast. Compared to the Z it crawls. Seems now
most new cars are all over 200HP

I am sure lots of car owners get bored with thier cars. it's already 6 years old.
soon BMW will be on the 2nd new design since this version of the E36

Just thinking now would be a good time to let it go while the value is still a little something. Not sure anything other than another BMW will satisfy me.

Besides the value I will get back from selling aint that much. Enough to put down on a new or used car in the 25K range. That'll either get me a newer model so so car or an older model quailty car.(which is what I have now)

Maybe I should just keep the 328i and Mod it. I started modding the Z and it's an addictive hobby, not to mention $$$.

Ok, speaking from expierence....
A Modded 350 Z is sick compared to a 328i, I know cuz my friend has a modded 350 Z and my sister has a 328i!! If you already have Z and are modding it I dont see any point in getting a M3 or something unless you got the money to burn, cuz what it sounds like to me, is that you want a cruiser, so maybe go for an 5 series for the weekday driver and keep the Z for speed on the weekends!! Thats just my 2 cents cuz unless you have money to burn why spend it on something you dont really want as a every day driver!!!

Also I noticed how you mentioned how the Z gets "terrible MPG", I dont know what you are doing with it but my friend who has the 350 Z gets great gas Mileage, around 22-28 city and aroudn 32 cruising on the highway. Its like twice that of my old 535i clunker. So now you might be thinking, oh he doesnt push it, well He pushes it every second he is driving it, its actually quite a rush to drive with him! So hope your PMG gets better cuz he has had his for a year and always got High MPG!

To me the Z gets terrible gas milage. 18MPG to me is bad. Lots of city driving. If I drove it daily it would cost me almost double in gas than what my 328i does.

Nissan specs the car at
EPA City 20 MPG
EPA Hwy 26 MPG

Your buddies numbers are the best MPG numbers I have ever heard of for a Z.
I own one and can't imagine my car ever producing those numbers.
32mgp on a Z is way too high. A broken in Z will get better MPG than a brand new one.
check out this MPG thread on my350z.com http://my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&...&threadid=44775
the avg MPG is around 22 or so
My Z has a CAI and Exhaust on it.

As for my 328i modding it might be the way to go. Wonder if about
4K can get it in anytype of performance shape. or is a 98M3 a better move.

I wasnt sure about the 32 MPG, thats waht eh said but it seemed to high, but as an example, we can Drive from Laguna Beach, CA to Palm Springs,CA and back still have a half tank of gas!! I am not sure on how far that is, but thats really good gas mileagae in my opinion after driving mine that sucks gas like no other!!

Are you looking for a daily driver to mod, another week end car, tissues, plutonium?

Apparently money is not an option (that is to say if you are telling the truth here) so sell the 328 and buy a Lambo. Diablo would be nice. Fire engine red with tinted windows and the naked lady stickers on the back.

and your reply was helpful in what way ?

The 328i is my daily ride. I am just bored with the car. It happens.

Never said money was not a factor.

What wouldnt I be telling the truth about ? were talking about a 98 328i
were does a Lambo have anything to do with this ?

Hmmmm helpfull, good question. I also do not see where my post was helpfull in the slightest bit. Good observation.

As for teling the truth - playing devil's advocate is all.

A Lambo would be a geat daily driver that you probably wouldn't get bored of.

Ya got a 350Z new for the week ends, that is modded, for the week ends mind you. If money was a factor would you even have the resources to buy a 350Z new and mod it, only to be driven on week ends? Then, on top, consider purchasing yet another car?

ok so I have a few bucks to play with, True.

but I really can only afford either a new car(sell the BMW) in the 25K range or just mod my 328i. that keeps my monthly payment the same as it is now. just extends it a couple of years. HEll by that time the new car is already old and we can start this all over again.

for 25K I could get a 00-01 3 series with the same amount of miles I have now on my 98 328i. Then no $ left to mod.

This car is my daily ride. Nothing wrong with a stock 98 328i. The car is very clean. So I am leaning towards mods. hoping that the performance will be there
with the mods I can afford.

So the question is a brand new 20K-25K new/used car or a modded 98 328i ?

I know these problems are not problems but this is a BMW forum so this is where
you discuss these pointless things in life about BMW's.

FYI: the 350z is BEAST !

Dont really want to make the Z a daily ride. It's a great car but not pratical enough for me to be my daily.

plus I need the extra seats the 328i provides.

************************************************** ******
So the question is sell the 98 328i

If sell what to buy in the low 20K range that will be a better ride than the 328i

or

mod the 5speed 98 328i ?

If mod what mods in the 3k-4k range ?

here is a pic of my car
