| 1986 E30 325i overheating Hi All, I recently piced up a 3 series 325i 86 mod and being an hour from home on a freeway with no stopping allowed i was alarmed when i saw the temp guage start to rise. it rose until just under the red area, then, it started to drop back to about 3/4. Well, not being able to stop i continued on and for the next half hour it continued to rise and fall. When i finally got home i opened the bonnet and was suprised that i could touch the metal rocker cover and all other engine parts. I thought thatrunning that hot wold make it untouchable.
I also checked the oil level and dipstick for water/moisture but the oil was clean. I checked under the oil cap, no moisture residue or milkiness.
I checked the fluid (header tank) and it was low but no sign of oil etc.
I did not the engine was a little tappety, but probably not uncommon for its age, and really only noticilble with the hood open.
The car drives quite nice, plenty of power etc. I did note a couple of misses at times. Do these models have rev limiters on them??
Any help would be appreciated.
Have i bought a lemon?
cheers
