Stellar makes alarms for BMW cars that are almost plug and play. Check them out at bavauto.com

As for audio, you can do a little or a lot. Merely adding an amp and sub will give you some low end, which makes everything sound better. I would also replace your oem head unit with a decent aftermarket unit too. As for brands and what not, the following is my $.02...

Head Units:

Nakamichi- High End
Alpine- Mid Grade
Kenwood- Good entry level

Amps:
Xtant or HiFonics- High End
Precision Power or Infinity- Mid Grade
Kenwood Excelon- Good Entry Level

Speakers
DynaAudio or Diamond Audio - High End
Infinity, PolkAudio, MBQuart- Mid Grade

Subs
Xtant, Hart High End
Infinity, Kicker- Mid Grade

As for speaker sizes, they may be had at crutcfield.com under "what fits my car?"
