I may not be as much help as you need, but the stock hu is the same as almost every hu. I replaced it with a clarion and the fit was exactly the same. You can post this in the audio forum for a better response by people that know exactly what you are talking about(not me).
The factory cd changer wont work. Your new radio is only compatible with whatever brand it is (kenwood/kenwood, alpine/alpine, etc). if its an ISO-DIN chassis, it should also do a DIN install as well. If your buddy had it in a toyota, mitsu, etc., he may/may not have the metal mounting sleeve neccesary to install it in a DIN configuration. I dont think I have yet to see a radio that advertised ISO-DIN that wouldnt also install as a DIN.
Like Jllphan said, make sure to get you a wiring harness to install this radio rather than wacking up the factory harness/plug. It'll make your life much simpler. Good luck.....
