Whatcha got for sound!?

Hi Everyone! I recently purchased a 1996 328is! My first bimmer! I'll try to post pics in the near future.


It came with the "upgraded" HK sound system. Nothing personal to anyone who likes theirs, but I think it sounds like crap. n

I'm looking for a new head unit and front speakers, and its a MUST to keep the interior looking stock.

HEAD UNIT: I've had great experiences with Pioneer in the past, but will be happy to try out anything that looks stock and has clean output. Looking for something that at least plays cds, and would like something that plays mp3's too but thats not a must.

FRONT SPEAKERS: I LOVE MB Quart Q Series, but I'm looking for 3 -way separates to fit the tweeters (in door panel), midrange (in door panel) and woofer (in kick-panel) factory locations. Anyone know the sizes of these locations? I think they are 1", 4", and 5.25". Does MB, Boston, or a/d/s have anything to fit? I'll be powering the fronts with 125 x 2 from a ppi amp.

Thanx for any input/help/ideas. I'm gonna hold off on sub for now, and rear speakers aren't a big concern for me as I want to focus on the front imaging so rear stock speakers will work for now.

Check out Crutchfield they've got a search for your vehicle and only parts that will fit it. You could search for decks on there too, good luck.

i recomend the infinity kappa perfect 5.1. they handel whatever you through at them and the tweeters are freeking amazing. However, when you are tuning your stereo system, do not turn the volume all the way up. You just might blow them, the tweeters that is. You have to break in any new speakers for about a week before you through some serious power to them. I found this out the hard way, mine blew and it will cost me $120 to replace them.

fully built trunk

can't fit more than a couple of shoe boxes in the space provided! looks awsome though

the battery in the trunk made it a breeze for the power cable installation.

i got a panasonic headunit with the ghost feature... it turns black when you turn it off. you canalso change the color of the screen... i keep mine red at night so it matches the interior. I paid 220 on ebay for the 1083, and there is a better model that has a better display. It comes with a remote and the scrren is touch activated.... i am very happy with it!
