amp is a JBL BP1200.1. I was originally thinking of going with a Kicker 15" l7. but 15" is a big ass sub... i think two 12" would look nicer with a nice amp rack and everything. let me know what you think or recomend please...
I have a sngle 8" Kicker Solobaric L7 sub, and it is PLENTY for me. I have been selling and using aftermarket audio for well over a decade, so you can trust my opinion. Furthermore Stillwater Designs is one of the manufacturers I've sold for that period, and I beleive they make some of the best subs for the money period. If you had a single 12" L7 and a good Class D monoblock, you'd have more than you would ever need.
the amp runs 600x1 at 4ohms and 1200x1 and 2ohms. so if i get a 4ohm sub then i will only have 600 watts running from the amp correct? that way i can get a smaller sub.
Exactly. 1200W is more than 600W, but @2ohm the amp is also producing significantly more THD (distortion). Distortion is what blows speakers, not wattage. That's why it is better to run a smaller amp with less distortion output, than a larger amp that puts out more distortion. You can use more of the power available on the smaller amp, as it can provide good clean sound.
I mention this, because the Kicker Solobaric Subs are DVC (Dual Voice Coil). This means you can wire them up in different impedences. This will dictate the operating impedence of the amplifier it is connected to.
well i purchased my subs. Two MB Quart RWC304 12" subs. they run at 4ohms. and 225-300 rms. for 100 a pop that didnt sound bad. i want to rub MB Quart components too so it will all match up. Thanks for all your help. I hope to have it all installed and the box dialed in by next week, I really like El Pres. last install (esspecially hte amp rack). Ill be sure to take pics. again thanks for all your help.
